We'll I've had this rock river lower sitting around for 3+ years and finally bought an upper to complete it. Wasn't really shopping for it but a friend(and mnsubaru member) mentioned selling it so why not? It's a dpms 14.5" w/vortex flash hider he had welded to make it legal for me. He also had an older eotech on it so we decided to just leave it there and send it home with me too. It's quite different than my 20" A2

Thanks! I am also a huge fan of it. I was originally hesitant to spend that kind of money on a 1911, but all those worries went right out the window after the first trip to the range. I am 110% satisfied with all of my springfields. They are worth every penny.

    In my last post....
There has been some much progress.

EMP came home with me a a few months ago. 1st shot with this took out a pop can at about 25-30yrds. Needless to say I am happy.
    IMG_7883.jpg

and an AR pistol is the most recent addition. I just finished this on Sunday and already have 100 rounds through it. This is going to be an addicting one...

I picked up a Crosman Quest from Dick's a couple years ago after breaking my Crosman 760 shooting and bludgeoning (that is correct) two raccoons. Monster FPS for a break-barrel. Came with a scope that was bore sited in the store. Scary power . I live in the city so if the back drop is not (high) blue sky or terra firma, I don't shoot. Almost as loud as a .22LR and punches through 2x4s with ease.

I decimated the squirrel population on my block in <week. Through and through shots with full exit wounds.

Just picked up a Smith and Wesson M&P 40. Mid size. Took it out to the range and I am impressed.

Ive owned a few other .40 cal pistols and none were on the same level as this. Owned a Beretta px4 storm 40 and a taurus pt 40. The taurus is obviously shouldnt be mentioned but the m&p was light years better than the beretta. I contiplated by a Glock 19 gen 4 today instead but the price was just too good on the m&p so I went with that and couldnt be happier.

Now to find a storm lake barrel conversion for 9mm to have best of both worlds. Anyone know of any place that has them. Everything on the web is showing sold out and on back order.

Why not get a factory S&W 9mm barrel? I got one from Midway USA for 80 or so shipped. I recommend 9mm mags as well for the best reliability. Now I just need to find a .40 barrel and I am set

Yep. Built it from the ground up. Went together surprisingly fast for the first time assembling an AR. So far I am very pleased with how it turned out. It will be a very efficient way to deplete my ammo stores.

If you want to try it out, let me know I am sure we can figure out a time to meet up.

I normally frequent bills in robinsdale. Good range for pistols but too short for rifles besides just blasting.

I not a real big fan of bills but I go there some times because it is convenient for others that I am meeting up with. I usually prefer going to the range in Hutchinson. Well if you do go again and happen to plan on bringing it with you, I would more than gladly meet up and let off a few rounds. How much did it cost you to build something like that, if you don't mind me asking. It does take 223 right?

^^^ A 1911 is one of those gotta have one(or more)guns. I've had no trouble with any of my Springfields. BTW Federal 45 auto 100 round value packs are $29.xx/100 right now and I've been seeing lots on the shelf. Thats's a good enough price to grab a few extra boxes.

Latest addition to my Springfield XDS, a Crimson Trace RailMaster. This is what I use as my daily carry minus the laser.

Well, affordable on the ammo anyway. I can't find a price yet for the minature 1919 model.

Why not carry with the laser?

After the Aurora shooting I decided that whatever I'm carrying is going to have a laser at the minimum and preferably a light/laser.

Alright guys I'm thinking about getting a hunting rifle something like .308 or what ever you can recommend. Currently it's for long range target practice and down the road maybe even hunting. I want to start getting more familiar with scopes and long range shooting. Thnx

Savage Arms and Remington 700 is what I've been recommended so far.

You can't really go wrong with either of those. The Remington 700 is like the 350SBC of the bolt action rifle world, there are a million things out there for them. .308 or .300 WinMag are the two calibers I'm looking at a bolt gun for.

Check out Raven Concealment, they make phenomenal holsters and can do custom work for a very reasonable price. I can't recommend them highly enough.

I recently finished another AR... this one is for me, and ISN'T 5.56. I believe Mr Shorten enjoyed it :p

a quick hint to the potential specs, its a custom 20" stainless mid-weight Krieger match bull barrel, with a 1 in 12 twist specifically for better accuracy with higher velocity loads of this fun ammo.

Anyone have any expeirence with the Ruger Gunsite scout rifle? I looked at one and a local shop today and totally fell in love. I wanted to know of any details on it that someone may have that I havent seen in a million reviews online.
Looking to see if its worth the money which was well below the MSRP ruger has listed on their website. But not A huge fan of Ruger and some of their old liberal stances. So other than that, any reason to not buy?

I don't know. I still have some serious issues with giving Ruger any of my money. That being said, does it really do anything a Remington 700 or a Savage bolt action doesn't already do? You can do an awful lot to a 700 these days.

If you are looking at more of a hunting rifle and primarily like whitetail and other game animals 308, 270, 30-06 are all mint calibers for the job. Don't let anyone tell you they aren't powerful enough to take a 200lb animal. The reason I say this is because a lot of people and magazine experts are recently in the mind set you need at least a 300 win mag or bigger top make a humane kill. Now if you are going to be looking at more range time for LONG shooting or larger game definitely go with a larger caliber. However, a 30-06 or 308 with the proper set up is easily a 300+ yard gun with the right shooter, my father with his Winchester 30-06 has shown and proven that to me on a few occasions.

I currently also have a remington 700 in .270 caliber. Just really liked this shorten carbine type rifle. Not exactly sure why. Ive got two hunting rifles already. So its not really going to replace them. Just wondering if any one had a chance to shoot one yet?

No problem. I utilized a Ruger 308 all my years hunting in Wisconsin. Loved the gun and caliber. It took down every deer, bear, coyote or whatever I was hunting. It also made a enjoyable gun to sit down and just shoot with.

I'm personally not much of a fan of mossberg, however, I have not picked up and shouldered that particular gun to be for sure. I'm quite partial to the browning A-bolt line. I have not shot one but shouldering them is very comfortable, balance is nice and the look is good. Check them out if you haven't already.

Thanks for the recommendation I'll put that on my list. I just shouldered half a dozen rifles yesterday including the Savage 30-06. It felt very natural for my short arms. I was considering the Mossberg for its complete package for longer term activity. But I'm going to take my time and figure it out.

Nice find, where did you pick it up?
