Ended up ordering a CMC 3.5 lb trigger and remaining LPK instead of the Stag. Should be here Thursday. Looks like I'll be putting together the lower sometime this weekend.

Final parts came in for my lower. Now all that is left is the Upper which I'll be ordering complete, and the optics. For now I will run a red dot that I have but a Leupold scope will be purchased when the funds allow it.

Here is the current state. Omni Hybrid lower, CMC single stage 3.5lb trigger, Magpul Dark Earth Furniture.

Finally got my rifle put together. Ended up going with a Hulra upper that is piston operated instead of gas. It has a 16", 1/7 twist barrel. Slapped on my Vortex red/green dot with a 4MOA just so I could shoot it. I need to get a good scope on top to really see what it will do but so far I am just happy to be able to shoot it. The CMC trigger is great and right out of the box with no tweaking or anything the thing shot without a hitch.

first 30 rounds through the rifle with NO adjustment at all

Here is just a 5 shot group

Any fans of scout rifles here? I really like the forward mounted optics. Top one is a scouterized Ruger 10/22 using an Amega top rail and wearing a Leopold 2.5x28 scope. It is my squirrel gun and works great with the position of the scope giving me excellent peripheral vision to detect movement. Middle is a Ruger Gunsite Scout .308 wearing the same scope. Bottom is my latest acquisition - a Steyr Scout .308 wearing a Burris 2-7x32 scope. The Steyr is going to be my main deer rifle if I get a chance to go out this fall.

It's a nice rifle. Integrated bipod is a cool feature. Now I'm tinkering on the reloading bench to roll up a nice deer round. It shoots great with pretty much everything, but I just gotta tinker and see what it likes best.

Integrated is nice, but I put an external one on to keep the poly in good clean order.

I also don't like the fact that they collapse in the direction I'm pressing. So I just slapped on a sturdy steel bipod.

what are you doing with it? I had Krieger spin a 20in for me a few years ago and it's damn accurate, but honestly doesn't make as much sense as going to a 6.5grendel if you need to reach out more.

Not a whole lot. Just wanted a long barrel. Though, the more im reading on it, a lot of people are saying that a 16" is more than adequite

Yeah, 300blackout won't see much benefits over 14.5in even unless you're rolling your own and specifically trying to shoot a specific load/bullet.

With that said, mine is a sub .5MOA gun, but for all practical purposes isn't that much more effective than my 10.5 blackout, nor is it the tack driver my 6.5grendel is

It was based off of a 5.56 multi cal lower i had laying around forever. So i figured i would use it finally. And since 300BLK runs through them nicely i figured i would roll with it. But i could easily just say screw the 300 and go for a long barrel 5.56.

It'd just be a bummer to see you spend time and money on something that isn't going to meet your expectations, really, for anything 200+ yards the 6.5 Grendel is a far more effective cartridge than just about anything else they've come up with that will run in a standard AR15 lower. Only downside is it takes proprietary mags, bolt, and barrel whereas 300 blackout is just a barrel for difference with a 5.56.

Yea, and that's my draw to it. .30 cal in a standard lower. I wont be really upset either way if i go back down to a 5.56. All things considered, I and many people rarely shoot farther than 150m on a given shooting day. I have a .308 Scout for if i ever decide to go hunting or want to reach out farther than that. Thanks for the info though! I am still undecided if i want to do the 300 or a 5.56. Luckily that decision wont affect the build much at all. So i can still piece everything together until then.

Yeah, still the same lower on the Grendel too, just a different mag and bolt as well is all.

300 blackout is awesome, especially if you wanted to hunt MN with it.

I have the M&P 22 Compact for the sparrow and nothing yet for the octane. I am looking for a Kimber Pro TLE II TFS, or if I run across one, that is probably going home with me. I just figured that if I am going to go through all the ATF stuff before the new rules, I might as well get the .22 and .45 done at the same time. Then if I stumble across anything in the meantime, all I have to do is get the correct adapter. I do kick myself in the ass for not picking up a used VP9 tactical for $499.
