The XD usually goes for around 500-650 depending on the model IIRC.

Bi-tone was about $600 I believe. Check out gunbroker.com or in my experience Gander Mountain has given me amazing service.

Bills Gun Shop in Robbinsdale is also a good place to check out, as is the Frontiersman on 394.

^IMO Bill's tends to be expensive. You might try the Gun Stop down on excelsior blvd. They are much more reasonable in pricing and are great work with. Otherwise Cabelas has a good selection, with OK pricing.

What's with all the teeny guns? If you've got a CC permit why not pack some proper heat? Those guns remind me of the squirt guns my kids play with - I can barely hold them with my middle finger and thumb!

Not hating, but those pistols are "cute". There's not much to grab for in an emergency - I'd be afraid I'd miss it or drop it. I'll take an adult-gripped .45ACP all day long.

A fullsize 1911 can be carried concealed and many people do. I've got 9 in the first load with 16 more following. If I run into a situation that isn't solved with 25 rounds of .45ACP then I really screwed the pooch by getting into the wrong situation/area in the first place.

It's all in your holster and clothing and how you carry the gun. Personally, I have little desire to risk my life on a .32 round, let alone .380. 9mm would be the minimum for me, and even then I'd be picking my ammo carefully. If I get a dedicated conceal (read: compact) pistol it'll either be the new Sig 250, a Sig 228 (.357SIG) or a HK USP Compact/Compact Tactical in either .357SIG or .45ACP. For now, my Kimber works just fine.

I know the .32 isn't a huge round but if you hit what you need to it will do the trick, Plus staying the He!! away from the problem will help a lot too. A larger round is nice, I would agree, Maybe when I have more $$$ I'll expand the collection some more.

Situational awareness is the most important part of staying out of trouble, use that wisely and you'll never need to draw your weapon. Of course, the flipside to that is actually practicing and practicing and practicing so if you ever have to you're not fumbling around.

Do you live in north Bagdad?;) I've never found myself anywhere where tough talk, a bunch of bros and some knuckles don't make a difference and I've rocked every hick joint in a 5-state area...

I tend to stay out of areas where I might have to perforate someone. ;)

Besides, there are so many scary spots here in GV that I'm usually packing both the Bushmaster and the 870 as well as the Kimber in a low mount tactical rig.

Oddly enough I have known a few people that have been mugged in the Minneapolis area. Awareness is a huge factor, had these people not been so absorbed in their cell phone conversation that probably would have been mugged. Perception is also key. a 5'4" girl on her phone is a much more appealing target than Brian Shorten carrying his .450, 870 and .45ACP openly.

As for a defensive round all of the research I have done has shown me that you want the caliber to atleast start with a .4x. It all boils down to penetration and energy. Although there are some exceptions ie. .357SIG which IIRC is the round the secret service uses.

Check out this website for a decent break down of different calibers: http://oklahomaconcealedcarry.com/Caliber_Ammo_Selection.html

That being said, it doesn't matter if you're packing a S&W .460XVR if you can't hit your target. Shot placement is what will put someone/something down, and that comes with practice. Practice, practice and more practice, especially under stress if you can arrange it.

    That's alot of money for a 22

And you don't have to worry about the legality of it. From the way it is assembled, it would probably classify as a long barreled .22 rifle. I don't think they'll have any issues.

It's not that bad, a decent Ruger 10/22 will run about 100-150 less. A Sig Mosquito is about the same price. The "suppressor" is just covering the barrel, although Gemtech is making suppressors for it for the lucky folks who live in a Class III legal state. That would be a fun little toy. I'm considering one over a 10/22 just for the ergonomics and fun factor alone, although there is so much you can do to the Ruger and they'll run forever.

Jason, let me know when you want to go scattergun shopping.

Sounds good. I'll keep looking around, that 500 I told you about last night was the same one that's in the olive colored JIC case and was going for 350.00, so you'd be saving some coin. I'll try to stop by Bill's this week, they usually have some fun ones as well.

We usually take turns shooting, so it will make your ammo last a little longer timewise, and you can get more there. I'd say I usually go through about 3-500 rounds of .22LR, 1-200 rounds of 12ga and 100 or so of .45ACP. I'm not sure how much I'll shoot the rifle, as it's not quite set up for what I want out of it.

    Yet. ;)

Last time I went through about 100 rounds of .40, although we werent there very long. on the 28th, I want to put alot more down range.

I have found that the CCI Blazer Brass .40 ammo works great out of the XDm. It is fairly cheap ($13 for 50 at walmart). I have heard some reports that the Remington .40 ammo isnt as reliable. Supposedly they use a hard primer, which may mean it wont go the first time. No big deal just need to reset the striker by pulling the slide back 1/2 inch and try again. I ran some of the Remington UMC ammo and had it happen 1 out of 150rnds.

Just a couple days ago I got a box in the mail from Springfield. It was for the Gear Up Promo. It is actually kind of cool deal. You get a carry case (unexpected!), 2 new 16rnd mags with exceptionally stiff springs, and an additional mag holster. Another cool thing is that the XDm will fit in the new carry case with 1 extra mag.

I just won this auction on gunbroker...

Mossberg 590 Mariner...9 shot...polished Nickel. It is going to come with 3 different grips and a carry strap. Now all I need is a side saddle to hold 9 more rounds and maybe a flashlight for the barrel!!!

You can't find this shotty anywhere anymore since they stopped making the polished finish.

You can still get them, but it's a matte finish instead of the polished.

    Mossberg item no: 50299

It's a nice looking gun though, they make a great shotgun.

Jason, you should check out either the 50591 or the 55605:

Does anyone on here have any personal experience with the S&W sigma line?
I was checking out my friends .40 tonight and did a little research, seems the major complaint is heavy trigger pull but otherwise fairly positive reviews. It's also about $200+ less than either the xd or glock. I have shot his before but it was a while ago. I'm trying to get him the the range to check it out again. Any input?

I'm not sure I could ever imagine firing a shotgun one handed.

The best advice i can give you would be to get to the range with it and put a few hundred rounds through it and see how you like it. Guns fit everyone differently, so what might work for me may not work for you. Personally, I think you can probably get a better gun for not a lot more, a 12lb trigger pull doesn't really thrill me much. What do you plan on using the gun for?

Have you looked to see if anyone makes/does trigger jobs for them? I know someone who has a takarov pistol that was the same way, 20lb trigger, but he got a kit and now its a 1lb trigger. They seem pretty cheap too, I can get one for my XDm for $60 or the match one for $80

Only problem with that is if it'll be a concealed carry gun and he does shoot someone, the opposing lawyer will be asking why the gun was modified. There are trigger kits for the Sigma, but I think for the money a used Glock would be a better buy IMO.
