I'm curious what you would have thought of the STI with a simple Group N bushing/mount swap throughout the car. This is the biggest fault I see with Subaru, and the STI isn't even immune to the infestation of mushy rubber bits. Upgrading these parts really does create an entirely new car driving experience and gets rid of basically every aspect that pisses off a driving enthusiast: the isolation and lack of feel, mushiness, vagueness, wandery feeling, delay in action and reaction of car behavior and driver inputs, completely lack of precision, slop everywhere. Evos are good cars though. There are a lot of aspects and differences of personal taste though. Sounds like you needed to hit up a few rally-x and ice racing events too me. Heck, bring out the Evo on a set of snow tires. They too do rather well in the dirt and snow.
Yay, spreading the Evo love. What I don't understand is why everyone here says Subarus are better on dirt/snow and Evos better on pavement. idget is the only STI I ever see autocross and he's neck and neck with me, similar power though he has upgraded suspension and I do not. I'd rallycross if I had separate wheels for my snow tires, hopefully soon, then we'll see how an Evo does in the dirt.
Yeah, it's sad they never brought the wagon over. Neither the Evo or STI really much better than the other, just different flavors. The only major drawback the Subaru has in stock form is the understeer that Subaru insists on adding to every car they make. Watching the Evo on a track is a beautiful thing. It looks happy, stable, and neutral. Watching a STI on a track is somewhat painful, and the thing just plows on every corner and squeals its front tires in anguish. Stock to stock, their gearing is just different, and Subaru loses. Modded, all bets are off, and they tend to end up relatively on par with one another. Any major difference between the two in a race will be a basic matter of setup, i.e. who has the better tires and suspension balance, and who is the better driver for that course.
Please transfer this thread to mnmitsubishi.com. Wait, that doesn't exist, because Evo's are ghey.
DAMMIT!:emo: Well, this thread fails even more due to the inordinate attention whoring of the OP if he indeed had a proper venue to whore his new EVO in... This thread redefines FAIL. How many Subaru folks post their RS/WRX/STis on the ghey site below?
I'm guilty(or ghey if you prefer) but I'm not the only one:biggrin: Actually there are a few people that frequent both sites. I did inform Will about the site on the first page of this thread but he has not joined last time I looked. http://www.evomn.net/forums/viewtopic.php?p=13927&highlight=#13927 http://www.evomn.net/forums/viewtopic.php?p=792&highlight=#792
Too bad you rarely see an Evo on a track, according to people who spend lots of time on actual race tracks. Ya everyone compares cars stock for stock, but who leaves their car stock these days? The whole comparison is a moot point. Subaru build quality and brand loyalty verses Mitsubishi questionability maintainability. For ****s sakes, why would a company stuff one more gear in the same case, making the whole assembly weaker????????Just the thought of it makes your average engineer want to punch babies...
www.evomn.net www.mitsustyle.com kthx And STIs are seen more often? It's one in the same it seems, and that's not a lot. As for the Evo 6-speed, people who "race" prefer the 5-speed anyway.
let the baby punching commence...i wish you luck..and unlike my friend who owns a EVO i prey it's timing belt don't snap just as it pulls off the lot
Poor maintenance or bad luck? I changed mine 65k and it looked hardly used. The belt still had the lettering on it and the pulleys were like new.
wow, I cannot believe people are still talking about the damn EVO... we get it...fairly nice cars,... everyone is going to have their own view on what kind of car they prefer. /!!
Sounds like a crappy manual driver. And there was an Evo8 in Los Angeles that was driven from one dealership to another by a dealer driver. He burned out the new clutch in 30 something miles of LA traffic. He was also likely a stupid driver.
How is this not a proper venue? Its a car forum. If we were simply subaru enthusiasts, and not car enthusiasts, that would make us a bunch of unnapreciative douches. There are many phenomenal cars out there, only a handful of which are made by our precious subaru. He has been a member on here nearly a full year LONGER than YOU have. He has contributed a TON to this club, from starting the minnetonka meet, to setting up discounts through discount tire. He's held installs at his home, spent a TON of time hooking others up with parts, and as well, has done a lot of business with other members (none of which will have anything bad to say). The cars he has built have been liked by just about everyone on here, and in that being said, he is building a comparison to his STI who he sold to another member on here. He has every right to be biased to his new vehicle, just like you apparently are to your subaru, including not acknowledging its weaknesses. I for one dont mind stepping outside of my comfort zone to listen to a comparison of a vehicle to a subaru. while their review may not be what I want to here, it might be true, and hell. I might learn something.
but Jack you forgot the part about his pissy hissy fit and such.. other then that.. RIGHT ON... and will I am teasing
As it has been stated before, you are way biased. Your transmission argument may be true, but you are ignoring that fact that getting past 550 or so AWHP is infinately easier to do on an EVO vs an STi. And, as Top Gear tested it, the EVO stock for stock is actually faster around the track. You are of course entitled to your opinion though.
^ Agreed! I think I should have both my 07 wrx for my winter car and 08' evo for summer/autocross car.
Which means Subaru is ahead (by .02 sec.) with this generation. We'll see what happens with the next gen.
Yes, I am aware of that. The point I was trying to make is that the STI and the EVO are pretty much equal when it comes to performance from the factory. So, the tired, lame, and idiotic arguments as to "which is t3h fast4r" are pretty well moot. That was proven long ago when the SRT4 came out. The time difference is not that important because it is so small. The fact of the matter is, not many STIs or EVOs ever see track time. It's the feel of the car that matters, the handling, the style, even the brand. Which are entirely subjective. You get good performance either way you go. What matters is the owner's opinion and preferences. There's a lot more to it than numbers.
Which was my point. Everyone was tearing the EVO down. I was simply offering evidence to the contrary.
are you saying the SRT-4 is faster? Is it? I guess I have no idea. But that would be quite lame if it was. haha.
