Very well! We had an electric one like the second one I linked for my astronomy class. Made it so you didn't have to keep adjusting the telescope every couple minutes. If you are just trying to get a few minute long exposure the manual one would work if you get it dialed in right. But the automatic is nice if you are viewing for hours.
