I just got home. The long block and mud hog helped the car more straightish.

I could spend days on that thing with the pointed body hammer, lol.

    the next phase has begun!

woot, oil pickup was in great condition. engine in general is in extremely good condition.

We did a leakdown and these were the #'s cold:

    Cyl 1…4% Cyl 2…2.5% Cyl 3…3% Cyl 4…2%

we also did some performance tests - this is what the car was doing n/a

    3rd gear 2500rpm to 5000rpm 7 seconds 1st run. 7.5 seconds 2nd run.

    2nd gear 2500rpm to 5000rpm 3.7 seconds 1st run 4.2 seconds 2nd run.

    20mph to 60mph 2nd gear start 9.6 seconds 1st run 9.2 seconds 2nd run.

    Gravel start to 50mph 8 seconds 1st run 8.1 seconds 2nd run

    that's pitifully slow

I guess I've never actually seen the newer oil pickup brace. No wonder they crack and break. The old ones don't rigidly attach to the pickup.

    deleting some TGVs
    [IMG]

maddad header wrapped in DEI titanium wrap (this stuff is much nicer than the old fiberglass crap - way easier to work and doesn't get you all itchy.)

    look ma, no heads!

    what 11:1 pistons look like
    [IMG]

one side done with cometic hg and ARP studs
    [IMG]

gonna go do the other side after dinner. I can't finish them completely since I need a few gaskets. My ACT prolite flywheel showed up today (ImportImage ftw!!) so I've got pretty much all I need aside from the gaskets (3 bolt manifold to up-pipe, water crossover pipe, half moons for the heads) and turbo restrictor

got a dremel (or similar rotary tool)? Free.

actually. it'd still probably be cheaper to buy a dremel than have them deleted.

Since you're only gonna be running about 6 or 7 psi, why not just go MBC or no boost controller?

I'm guessing the restrictor must be a requirement for the class you run in?

no. we decided that the biggest problem with the VF39, is the air inlet was too large. it really needed to be toned down a bit ;) :p

yea. IIRC all turbo cars have to run one.

all turbo awd cars must run restrictors. 32mm for pgt, 34mm for sp and open

    lightweight flywheel

Dave, Tall Dan and I put the engine in twice today (the shield that goes under the flywheel/clutch got bent up between the trans and motor so we had to pull it back off to straighten it).

Then my dad and I pull it and installed it again after i realized part of the clutch release bearing wasn't installed properly. A big thanks to Matt (bikerboy) for hooking us up with a throw-out bearing!!

The good news is she runs! fired up on the first try (didn't run it long since no coolant was in the engine and I didn't even have the downpipe on. We also are throwing a ton of codes (tgv's, o2, evap for sure - maybe more lol)

Ron at RS Motors tuned the car today. This is what we got - 208whp, 281wtq. We aren't holding much boost - either the wastegate or a boost leak so there's maybe a bit more in the car but this is more than enough for sno*drift. notice peak torque at 3250 rpm. It's odd to drive since it makes huge tq right away (and gets there quick with the 11lb flywheel) and then hits a wall as the revs climb.

Ron did a great job tuning the car for driveability and reliability. For the short while I drove it tonight I was very impressed with the car's response. That useable power combined with the new diffs and the ability to re-map the programmable dccd (I bought my own GEMS controller and software so I can edit the dccd maps) should give us some very good results this year. We'll have to look into why we aren't holding more than 16psi and maybe re-tune before 100aw (I also want to get a new cat, ours might be partially plugged).

could the fall in boost pressure just be due to CFM limitations from the restrictor?

    either way. awesome!
