sounds like a god plan. something a lot of people forget is that even the slowest car out there is more fun than sitting in a chair on the side fo the road. my first, and only, rally ride (so far) was in Jim Cox's old P class S-10. man was that a fun ride.
Carl, can you explain the reason for laying down those CF sheets in the footwells? This project is pretty dang cool, imho.
okay a few questions... this is going to be N/A at the end? Race/rally prepped? if thats yes, wouldnt u want to get ur hands on a 3.0 or 3.3l boxer for a lil bit more push? if thats no, why not?
Rules for the OL class have a displacement max of 2.65L (iirc) It's basically designed to allow a 2.5L Subaru motor with a slight overbore to allow for rebuilds.
didn't do too much today. mounted the handbrake, messed around cutting up random bits of the car (heater core, pulley cover, made a new switch plate and laid all the positions out) better pic quality for today lol
I got to see it in person today. I know what to get for a handbrake now. Thanks for having me over, it was a real treat.
I was just going to tape some trashbags up there  no lexan in the immediate future - down the road is a possibility
required by rally america. not sure if open light requires stock cards but super production does (what I eventually will move to)
i think open light will just require the door to be covered. but yeah, if you are gonna go SP you might as well just leave them. they arent that heavy. same with the power windows. you gonna keep the cruise? it comes in handy on the long transit back to bemidji.
Lexan is really hard and expensive to do with frameless windows. Most times you lose the ability to roll down the windows. Check out Cowboy Kenny's car.
reasoning is more to keep under the speed limit after coming off a hot stage with a bit of red mist clouding your judgement rather than foot fatigue.
got a link? Is it durable enough for daily driving use and dusting? Or does it attract dirt? I really wanna do this on my car's dash and a pillars and defi pod.
apparently doug havir baffled the prodrive engineers when he asked for them to keep the cruise control on CPD-1. no one had ever asked them to do that before.
Dude, Carl.... This looks simply AMAZING. Cant wait to help you work on it this winter. I REALLY cant wait to attend some events with you. This thing is gonna be TitsMcGee man. Sorry i haven't posted up in this thread sooner, didn't know it existed till you told me. I'm definitely checking it out this weekend when i'm coming home from Rapid if thats alright. I'll try to make some time to help (if i can). MAD props to you man. That little thing we threw around at the Ice races has come a long way! Four thumbs up brotha! - Chase
finished modifying the heater core/blower motor to clear the cage. I removed the a/c exchanger and cut off most of the housing (I also shortened the pipes for the heater core) then i fabbed up a sheetmetal cover for it, caulked it and fastened it down on the blower side I took a rubber exhaust boot and cut it down so i could cram it inside and here's a look at how it all fits together
I've never seen on of those till today. That looks really interesting. You weren't kidding when you said it was big.
yep, just another stupid stock part that had to get chopped up to fit back in the car lol. I haven't cut up nearly as much as fobia but pretty much everything has been touched with the sawzall or dremel lol
Let me tall you sir, that after seeing your car I actually thought about gutting mine out too. But that would require some serious garage time in the MN Winter. So I will see how things go after next season, after I can figure out what I can get out of the car as she is. I like my ladies with a little more meat ya know.
+1 for this. When I co-drove, I would CLOSELY Watch the GPS speedo on transit. Those penealty points woudl be SO stupid.
wow, these rally cars take a lot of work to build... I would have the hardest time diving it balls to the walls think about how much damage I'd be doing, and all the work it would take to get it back to the same condition. cudos to you Carl!!!
Not an uncommon reaction. Some people are strong advocates of driving a car you hate, so you can drive it like you hate it. I have no problems driving my Sentra like I hate it, even though I love the B13 cars. I'm never going to make it as nice as carl's car though. If I do wreck it though, I'd probably switch to a VW, because I really do hate those.
oh there's no question I'm a moron for using an sti as the platform for my first rally car but hey, it's just money... oh wait... crap lol basically I'll be driving very slow for a while (until I know I can afford to buy another chassis lol)
