Hey guys. I was looking around and didn't find what i was looking for on the other forums. I was wondering if anyone knows about setting up a 2.5RS to run on ethanol/E85. I assume I would need the better flowing fuel pump and bigger injectora and to tune for the extra needed fuel. Does anyone know if this would work or cause me any problems? Mostly just curious
E85 on NA car will not give you much more power anyways just stay with pump gas. There are a few posts about NA cars and e85 on NASOIC but you will not find them very usefull.
You would need to raise the compression to between 12:1 and14.5:1 to measure any appreciable gains from using E85 on an N/A engine. Even then, you might not even get to stock WRX power.
I'm currently looking at running e85 in my RS. As mentioned, I'm looking at engine management and higher compression pistons (and cams and an intake manifold) before thinking about the fuel system. If yours is a daily driver, I'd suggest looking at other options to meet your goals... unless your goal is to experiment and tinker.
im in the process of getting a bigger fuel pump and injectors for my car just to see what it will do ill be getting cams soon so i can let you know what happens if you'd like
and btw a rs with intake exhaust and an accessport and the right cams and fuel upgrades will keep up with a stock wrx there are many threads on nasioc about it and Ive seen it in person
Ive done plenty on the subject, thats what I was going to do to my Impreza, basicly you end up with an n/a 2.5 that accelerates ALMOST as fast as a wrx, (a stock wrx is still going to pull on top, its the nature of a turbo vehicle) but its harder to daily drive (see rumpity camshafts), gets **** gas mileage, and is unreliable (revving past stock limit, 2.5s are fragile in stock form) You are going to spend $$$$ for less than a 60 hp gain.
If you want 150 whp, by all means do cams, exhaust manifold, and tuning. If you want more, tear into the shortblock to replace pistons and do some headwork. Maybe you'll eek your way up to 200 hp on a good day. It's just not worth it in the long run. The only point to use E85 on a N/A engine is if you've raised your compression.
Comparing acceleration times between a GC and a GD isn't a good comparison either, considering a GC can be 400lbs or more lighter than a GD. The other thing to consider is that after all the money you'd be putting into trying to get an RS to "Keep up" with a WRX, you could do an engine swap and be starting off with a better powerplant for trying to make power. All of the threads I've seen where a naturally aspirated RS was anywhere close to a WRX were on GCs. FYI, telling Erik to go research something Subaru related is like telling Einstein to go research addition and subtraction.
There is not a good reason to run an N/A on e85. BTW: "because I can" is not a good reason. You are better off selling the car and getting a WRX.
Because I can is a perfectly good reason Because I want to try it and I want to see what happens money is not an issue nor do i care if i keep up with and or beat a WRX if i had wanted a turbo car i would have bought one in the first place and BTW I do not race in straight lines I race on dirt and what car gets first almost every time in the rallyxs? oh that's right a N/A 2.5rs
It's your money, you can do what you want with it. The rest of us are only trying to say that you'll be throwing a lot of money down for not much in return. Your reasoning is a bit flawed on the rallyx victories being due to N/A vs Turbocharging. The driver is the main component in that, not the engine. I've seen plenty of drivers in cars that on paper weren't that capable beat cars with a lot more power. I could be using Pastranas rally car and I'm sure Mark U would still hand me my ass while driving his Mustang.
hahaha whoa. thanks guys. I was just curious is all. Yeah i surfed NASIOC and other sites and nothing they had were much help. Dmoo: I'm pretty sure that's what I'm gonna do. Drive it nice until I graduate and get myself a WRX. Nuke: it makes me sad that they don't have any real good EMSs for the 02-04 N/As other than the Ralittek P6 ECU.
Without RomRaider support for your ECU, a standalone is by far the best option for tuning these cars. Also, I was unaware that having a turbo car makes me purely a straight line racer.
