Hey all, I just purchased a 02 WRX that was pretty much stock except for a magnaflow exhaust and a k&N air filter. I have about $1000/1500 I can put into it for any mods/upgrades. This is my daily driver so I don't need anything outrageous, just something to give it a bit more performance while not sacrificing to much reliability/economy. I was thinking of purchasing an accessPORT, but not sure if its worth it over a good scooby mechanic tune, also maybe purchasing a cold air intake. I don't know sorta new to subaru's, any suggestions and/or information would be helpful??? The more the better.
Welcome. Winter tires for your stock wheels, used summer wheels and new summer tires. Call up nf performance for a custom tune by Nuke. Much cheaper than an ap unless you need the portability or constantly change maps.
I'd add a Uppipe replacement or gut, catless downpipe, injector mod, fuel pump, BCS replacement and get a tune to the above suggestion. yeeehhaaaa.
Thanks for the fast replies guys, retreif, do you know about how much all that would cost?? I'm trying look all of them up, but if you have a estimate that would be great.
is this considered a catless up pipe http://www.rallysportdirect.com/GrimmSpeed-Ceramic-Coated-Uppipe-Subaru-Models-inc-2002-2011-WRX-STI
what is the difference between this downpipe http://www.rallysportdirect.com/Invidia-V3-Downpipe-Divorced-Wastegate-Subaru-WRX-STI-2002-2007-Forester-XT-2004-2008 and this down pipe http://www.rallysportdirect.com/Invidia-V2-Downpipe-Bellmouth-Subaru-WRX-STI-2002-2007-Forester-XT-2004-2008 other then the price??
$60 uppipe $600 used turbo xs stealth back $100 modded injectors $125 walbro fuel pump $110 Grimmspeed BCS $$$ tune - see your tuner but it is way lower than a AccessPort. and you are e85 ready. Shop around and pick up a used downpipe. Someone had some nice 17" wheels on here for $350. Try maperformance for your parts - they are local or www.importimageracing.com. I had bad luck with flex up pipes and can't recommend them. The difference is one is divorced the other bellmouth. Which is better I don't know, I'd go cheaper at this point. I haven't heard anything bad about the Nvidia brand. I think you could do all for your budgets high end. Some light reading - http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1169980 Good luck!
Hey you made it over alright +1 for MAPerformance. A great bunch of guys and are always a great help.
Oh and forget the CAI until a turbo upgrade if even then. Another good mod is a bigger rear sway/anti roll bar. I seem to remember the 02 had a bigger one than the next model year on.
http://mnsubaru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42697 These wheels are very nice and flawless. I would say this is a good investment.
The 02 has a 20mm front and rear sway, which is bigger than other years. Here's a short list on what's going to make your car super fun (in no particular order): - Snow tires and wheels for winter, performance tires/wheels for summer -Turboback exhaust (At this point, you just need a downpipe. Catless or catted won't make a huge difference unless you want to hear afterfire through your exhaust from time to time. If you want a different cat-back, you can look into that as well.) - An upgraded boost control solenoid. Grimmspeed offers a very nice unit for Subaru's. - Short throw shifter (Try to stick with higher-quality units) - A catless uppipe is almost necessary, definitely put this as high-priority. - Ported/polished exhaust manifold. - Bigger injectors and fuel pump - Upgraded rear sway bar/endlinks - Quality springs I also agree to avoid intake setups for now. They're nice, but aren't going to make as big of a difference as exhaust upgrades at this point.
Yep, I think my first plan is to replace my front rotors cause the steering wheel shakes when I slow down from high speeds and invest in snow tires, anyone know any good brands?. Then probably a uppipe and catless down pipe and I think there is already a magna flow exhaust on it already. Is there a easy way to check what type the exhaust is?
A local firm Frozen Rotors sells the Brembo units that have been cryogenically treated. Supposed to last forever. Tell them you are a mnsubaru member and you might get a discount. http://www.frozenrotors.com/ I think magna flow would be stamped on it somewhere.
