Well i'm lost at this point. A couple weeks ago the brake line on the front passengers side on my 02 wrx blew out which as lead to a world of other problems. Since then I have tried just about everything, I replaced that line, replaced the master cylinder, bled the brakes 5 times in the proper order of RF, LR, LF, RR and still have no pedal with the car running. While bleeding the braks i can get plenty of pressure in the system (a stiff pedal) but as soon as i turn the key, i can depress the pedal all the way to the floor with pretty much no resistance. Does anyone have any ideas on something im overlooking or doing wrong? I would appreciate any help on the matter, thanks. -Ron
Sounds like you're not bleeding correctly... How are you bleeding it? Are you loosening the bleeder and having someone pump the brakes until you don't see any air bubbles? And then have them hold down the pedal while you tighten the bleeder?
For some brake systems, the procedure below is the best way to ensure all the air gets out of your system. The proper way is: - Keep the bleeder closed. - Have someone pump the brakes. Then hold down on the 3rd/4th pump. - Then you open the bleeder and let the fluid out. - Close the bleeder and repeat until you see no air bubbles.
Yes we've been bleeding properly, thats why i am so confused and frustrated as to why i still have a spongy pedal. Could it be that when the line blew out initially that it ran the system dry? I'm thinking there could be an air pocket possibly in the ABS control?
also note that there is an order to bleeding the brakes. I'd put the image up, but my work blocks photobucket and other photo sites. Just google image "Subaru WRX bleed Brakes" and you'll see the image.
you didn't change out the big vacuum line to your master cylinder and delete the check valve did you? or have it on backwards?
I found it, and thats the order we've been bleeding them with. Front Right, Rear left, Front left, Rear right
You have to cycle your ABS, then re-bleed your brakes. Get under the dash, there will be a black plug under their on the drivers side. On that black loose connector there will be two wires taped up. Upwrap them and plug the terminals into the bottom left and the bottom right of the plug if you have the clip on the top when your looking at it. Turn the key forward as soon as the ABS light turns of step on the brake and hold them down while it cycles. When its done, hop on here. Post a picture of David Hasselhoff and tell me how I'm the man.
