I've only smelled worse once, it was an older Golf that had that plastic shift linkage break so I could only get 3rd and 4th gear. This while stuck in Seattle rush hour traffic. Not a fun day at all. After I parked the car I actually thought it might catch fire from all the smoke under the hood.

Rotting hooker? Haven't smelled that particular fragrance yet...I'm curious as to why you might've though. ;)

You really need to have someone look at it. No one can diagnose this over the internet without hearing it.

    Tein Basic Coilovers

Does anyone know if they have softness adjustment?

    agh.

dont buy these. dont buy any coilovers or other suspension parts until you learn more about them.

There's no magic button that makes hard suspensions soft or vice versa. the only thing you can change is the dampening and rebound rate of the struts, stiff springs will still be a stiff ride.

and besides, tein basics are crap. Better off with BC racing coilovers.

Why are you saying that they are crap? I really think that they are pretty comfortable and make cornering really nice. I searched on Nasioc and there were a few people with them on there.

    lets see..

no adjustable dampening or rebound, no camber plates, relatively stiff compression with weak rebound, prone to rust, not advisable to drive in winter, prone to lower clevis weld breaking, not really optimal for anything and can be beaten by any similarly priced setup

Therye usually used as a tool to lower the car and replace a bad strut at the same time. They can be rebuilt but a damaged strut cannot be replaced. Good luck having tein rebuild them, it takes them forever to get it back to you.

the setup is only a year old and i am not in need to adjust it really. I like the way they are, a little bouncy on a highway but small bumps are no problem. And i am not racing my car.

+1 for Tein taking forever to rebuild struts. I've decided that replacing mine altogether is a better option than having them rebuilt. Also, if they are a year old, they are on the virge of being crap. Mine are 3 years old (FLEX, not basics) and the rears are pretty much shot and need replacing/rebuilding. The roads in MN are hell on coilovers, before moving here they were fine, a few trips down 94 and they are dead.
And coilovers suck in the winter.

I'm always a big fan of Springs and Shocks/struts. You can always choose your spring rate for what you want and get adjustable shocks/struts.

I don't recomend coilovers because of MN winter and MN crappy roads. Once the rings corroed together, getting them adjusted is a pain in the arse.

Ask Hercules what happen to his Teins already. They rust and they break off.

BC Coilovers FTW (U can adjust them to feel like the stock ride)...A few members here run them and they are the best bang for the buck...under $1k

PM idget...he has a nice setup...actually better not, he has no patience for ya lol

NO. NO COILOVERS. If you want a decent setup, get some KYB AGX struts, and a set of decent springs. They will last a while, are great for handling, will lower the car an inch or so, and will be a much better value.

try sit'in in Idgets car....the BC's are decent in the ride ^ for street/track and its adjustable...But if your looking for all street (spring/strut combo) Again if u r comparing coilovers as u stated on the thread with the teins, BC FTW...

    Need help

Ok, I know some of you are tired of me, but i need someones help. I found out that 60k service is like $900. I really dont want to spend that much on service. And i would like to learn how to do my own service. I would be really happy if someone can help me do atleast some of the service, like plugs change, diff fluid change, oil change, and any other stuff that can be done at home. I will pay for time and help. Thanks, Taras

    ok, here a quick sumamry.

CVR motorsports has the lowest priced AGXs in the usa.

Anywhere can get you good springs. RESEARCH THE SPRING RATES:

there is a small sampling of what is on the market. If you dont know the rates, dont buy the springs.

Higher rates = stiffer, progresive springs vary between rates and have a more comfortable ride. Most aftermarket springs match the dampening on the AGXs pretty well.

Prodrive springs are very popular, I use them myself. Swift has a nice drop if thats what you're into at a decent rate and the springs are incredibly well made. eibach and H+R are very comfy, but not all out handling springs. I had spec C type RA springs once upon a time and thought they were the best street springs i'd ever had, but they are difficult to come by and there are others that are pretty close like the prodrives

Get yourself a Haynes manual. They are very descriptive, with good pics. Thats all I used for ages on stuff like my timing belt, tranny removal, and countless other stuff.

I'm not shure if its 60k or 100k, but you'll need the valves adjusted if you don't want them to burn.

heres a suggestion...stop creating a thousand threads and go play with your car to learn more about it...or go to nasioc and read read read

oh and while you are on nasioc, make sure to make a bunch of threads like these there too

The best and only way to learn how to do something is to actually get dirty and do it your self... you can read all day long, but reading and posting wont change your filter and oil...
