Hey guys/gals! I'm replacing my timing belt and im to the point where im about to put the new one on, and pray i dont f up my engine. would anyone like to come check up on my work to assure i've done it correctly? Your help would be greatly appreciated! Did i mention that i have plenty of beer? Thanks! Tom
make sure it lines up with the other came gear and you should be good to go. with a ratchet on the crank pulley bold turn the motor over twice and see if the marks line up again. if they do then you are good to go.
it would be hard to turn your motor over twice when you would be loosening the crank bolt counter clockwise.
how much force do i need to put on the crank to turn it?? it turns smooth and then i cant get it any further past a point??
You could take the spark plugs out, then it should turn over very easily. Otherwise it will take some force to turn over to get past the compression stroke. If things are misaligned and the valves were hitting the piston, you'd probably hear it as well.
Alright so, i took the plugs out and im definitly hitting valve on piston. I'm feeling abit confused and frusterated. What do i do now??
sorry you're having issues. this may help you with the basics, but's it's a turbo motor. http://www.scoobymods.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4573&highlight=timing
found a sohc manual. It's on page 11 so scroll through the manual when it opens. you can click full screen which will help with the diagrams http://www.scribd.com/doc/6853/periodic-maintenance
i don't get how you would be hitting ? did you take off your cam gears and install hem wrong? or use a dohc belt? if you didn't and the lines meet up you should be in the clear.
^^My dad and i are thinking that the previous owner may have taken the cams off and put them on wrong Which kinda suckzors for me!! I'm going to look into it tonight after work. Phi11, your clown is creepin me out...
