I am looking to pick up a new set of summer tires for my 05 STI. I currently have a set of Hankook Ventus V12 EVO 2's on the car and wasn't happy with how quickly they wore. I mostly use the car for daily driving and spirited back road fun. Every now and again I'll do a HPDE at DCTC. Any recommendations would be appreciated.
I have been very happy with the 2 sets of Continential DW that I ran both on my WRX and my brz. I like the Nitto NT05 I have now on the brz but they are a very low tread life tire.
My Dunlop Direzza ZII's have been good to me so far. Tire wear has been surprisingly good after 3 summers on them and even a couple of drag days on them as well. I had the ZI's before that on my 07 STi, liked them, so ZII's were a natural choice for me. The ZII's look like they are on "clearance" right now on TireRack, as they are being superseded by their new ZIII's.
I should have stated that in my post. I only drive the car in the summer months. Thanks for the suggestions and keep them coming!
Plenty of high performance summer tires that are both budget freindly, good in the rain, have great tread life, and do it all while being alot better to drive then an all season.
I will be putting on the second set of Michlein ap super sports this spring. Quite seem to last decent. $$ THO
When giving tire recommendations, it's helpful to tell what size (15", 16", 17" etc) you had experience with, since tires of the same name/line can be very different based on what size they are. Example I remember off the top of my head is a few years ago, the Michelin Pilot Exaltos in 16" were fantastic and I had a set. The 15" used a different tread pattern and were garbage, based on many reviews. I've had good experiences with the 17" Dunlop direzza DZ102 and the previous model, (dz101 or Dz100, can't remember what it was called).
One of the best tires I've had so far is the Federal 595RS-R. Now it's the 595RS-RR. Great wear, excellent dry handling, decent wet, and very good for the occasional track day. Sizing is limited, and they tend to run a bit wide. The 235's are about as wide as most 245's. They are cheap. Really cheap. These are a great tire, and the price point almost makes them a no brainer. https://www.onlinetires.com/product...+595rs-rr+90w+bsw-FEDERALB4CL7DFA-p57847.html https://www.walmart.com/ip/Federal-595RS-RR-235-40ZR17-90W-BSW-Extreme-Performance/170673312
i got a great deal on some Bridgestone's at Costco recently. they still have a pretty good deal of $70.00 off a set of 4...
I second the federals. Great grip around BIR and DCTC in the dry, and did ok on track in pouring rain. Didn't use on the street much. life seemed to be decent despite the abuse.
Will the 235/45 fit well on a stock BBS wheel? I normally just go with the OEM recommendation, but as you stated, these tires come in limited sizes.
I did also find that they offer the tire in a 225/45 R17. There isn't much difference I see in the height.
Nope the 225 if it runs wide like people have said would fit the wheel best I think. 235 if it runs like a 245 might be a smidge wide. But still do able.
