Today is Monday night, I need this issue solved by Friday. I'm leaving on a week long trip to Iowa (for RAGBRAI) where I'll be putting a lot of miles on my car and don't want it to blow up.

'04 WRX wagon: scary noise coming from under the hood the last week, brought it into Steve's Tire and Auto. They said water pump was making the noise. I think they said it was grinding against the timing belt. They said that if it goes on without getting fixed the car could overheat and could even blow the engine. I don't remember exactly because I was thinking about the $1017.65 estimate and the $1350 to do all things that would need to be replaced in that area soon (probably timing belt, tensioner, etc). I wish I remembered more details. The estimate just says "REC. WATER PUMP, TIMING BELT ($1017.65)"

Steve's appears to be an honest shop but I'm just hoping you guys could help me out. Is this a pretty decent price? Anyone really want a project and could get this done FAST. Or recommend a shop that can get it done cheaper this week? Thanks

Well, its due for a timing belt anyways, if it breaks you WILL be buying AT LEAST new valves, if not heads, or a shortblock depending on what RPM it breaks at. You never listed you're location, that would help! I would be willing to do the job as well, Ive done quite a few wrx timing belts, Ide do it for $150 plus parts. (ROUGHLY $650 in parts worst case scenario)

Fred beans for parts (whole kit is sub 400 shipped), and talk to Bikerboy at RS motors to get the work done. He just did our LGT for a damn good price.
