    Car is a 2009 WRX:

0-500 miles <3500 rpm (no boost)
Switch out the factory oil for Rotella 10W-40 & filter
    500-1000 <4000rpm (a little boost?)
    Rotella 10W-40 & Filter
1000-1500 <4500rpm (progressively more boost onward)
    1500-2000 <5000rpm
    2000-2500 <5500rpm
    2500-3000 <6000rpm
    Amsoil Synth 5w30 & filter
    3000... WHOO HOOO

    1. What do ya'll think?

    2. If I have that 1st oil change at the dealer, is SOA going to be upset that I changed the oil so early?

    Thanks!

    1. waste of time.

Maybe take it easy on a fresh motor for the first hundred miles or so, but otherwise drive it like you are going to drive the car. Either the rings will seat to the walls or not, and babying the motor for the 3000 miles is a waste of time. I have been running amsoil in my car since mile 1000. Doesn't use a drop.

I stayed out of the revs (<4500) until about 700 miles, but I was on the boost all up until there. Just make sure NOT to use the cruise for extended periods of time.

Same opinion here. I would use light loads and all RPM's on the motor for the first 500 miles then let her have it.

I tried breaking in my first 09 motor for 1000 miles by staying under 4k for the most part, and it still blew up . So the second time I just said **** it and did what Russ and Bikerboy are suggesting. 12k and still going strong!

I have never dont a break in like that. I do change the oil alot on fresh motors to get all the crap out of it.

Spending some quality time under high vacuum is good, ie engine braking, in that 500 miles. Otherwise I ran on wategate pressure for a while (13.9 psi) on mine. Granted it was winter time and I didn't need more than that.

When I had my motor apart last time the rings were mint.

You might want to read this: http://www.cobbtuning.com/info/?ID=3475

Everyone has there own opinions about break ins. My mom did the break in on her 03 legacy exactly how the dealership said (not over 3k rpms in the first 1000 miles). It has ~120k on it right now with nothing but routine maintenance. Some argue that breaking a motor in under high stress (WOT and full boost) will get you the most power out of your engine but who knows.

"not over 3k rpms in the first 1000 miles"

This is what I did with my new block. 15k on it now and no problem's what so ever!

I broke my supra motor in something like that, except I did oil changes (with cheapo walmart oil and fram filters) at 100, 300, 600, 1000 and 1500. I stayed out of boost for 50 miles and then drove it sanely (no more than 10psi) until 500 miles, at which time I drove it like I stole it.

I was told nothing over 3k rpm for the first 1000. And try to vary your rpms, no long interstate trips. Ahh Might have broke that one had to slow down for a lot of little towns but with our 1 month summer if I had time off Im heading to the lake.

Before 3k change my oil. Im doing it at the dealer not much more and if it blows they cant say it was not done or not done right.

    6k change oil Regular again.

9k Ok to switch to a good synthetic.

When did you post pics of your new car? I missed it.
