Hey everyone! I'm new to this forum and looking to learn from everyone and share my journey with my new, to me, car. I drove 8 hours total this weekend and got a 2004 SRR WRX Wagon. Wagon Power! Couple things that I will need to be work on slash get fixed before any mods: 1)There is a whining sound around 60mph which seems to be coming from the rear/center left area of the car. I'm thinking its a rear diff issue but I'm not too sure. 2) Speedo is about 10mph off somehow. 3) The hood is rock chipped really bad. Any place to re-paint for not an arm and a leg or anyone have a replacement Red hood they are selling? This is replacing my 2004 Blue 2.5RS which will now be for sale: Update: Photos added thanks Tehfuzz Best, Chris
welcome to mnsubaru! Pics are nice weekly tuesday night meets at boom island park! hope to see you around! cheers
Thanks! Yea pictures are king Hmm... tried looking for a photo upload tutorial. Where do you guys normally host your photos seeing that i didnt see an upload function? Apparently google drive isnt working for me :/ Thanks for the help!
some use photobucket, but I usually just use other sites for photos like social media and copy the url link and click the image button listed above in the reply box. youll just put the url inbetween the tags . Hope that helps!
Thanks! Now the question is do I put the Goldies from my 2.5rs on here or leave the black wheels. Any thoughts anyone?
Nice! Welcome to the gong show How loud is the whine? Others with more knowledge can back me up, but I believe that this era car has an entirely 'normal' diff whine at ~60mph... I remember that SOA released a fix which basically involved adding some counterbalance weights to the diff crossmember, check it out: http://www.bescaredracing.com/sti/tsb/rear_diff_area_noise.pdf I love that the TSB describes the sound as 'Hoo'
Is seems pretty substantial but I guess it is a new car with new sounds to get used to. It definitely sounds like a "Hoo" type of sound just seems a bit louder than I would expect to be normal. At times its slightly less loud than my music. I'll see if I can take a video maybe someone else has the same thing going on?3
Come out to Boom Island on Tuesday night and maybe someone can take a quick spin with you and listen, it's not uncommon for a Subaru tech or two to show up, and besides that there's a lot of Subaru experience that shows up
Does the noise change with loading either side of the suspension up(swerving within your lane) ..could be a wheel bearing
Also the speedo will be off if the tires are not factory size. they look like lower profile than stock tires. Ahh the joys of modding cars!
Bah, i didnt think about the tires being the culprit. Good call. I downloaded a speedo app on the phone and it looks like its reading 10 mph above what im actually going. I can live with that...if anything i'd be going too slow
Welcome to the forum. That is a great color. I havent seen subies in that year/color before. Did you buy it down south somewhere?
I actually only drove one state down. It was in Des Moines, Iowa. the guy I bought it from had a 2002 sti and a 2004 rs as well. That guy was subaru crazy which i can appreciate.
I may have to do that. I'm always up for meeting like minded individuals How many people normally show up?
It varies on the weather, and schedules too of course but we usually have the fair amount of regulars that show. Winter meets will be coming soon too
So i took a little video. The sound is waayyy quieter in it but you at least can hear what i'm hearing. It's generally the worst around 50-70mph and it agitated by the accelerator. If I'm in neutral or off the gas it is far less. Actually, when im just slightly on the gas it is the loudest.
Beautiful car! I'm also in S. Mpls; Black 04 WRX Sedan. I'll keep an eye open for ya! GLWS of your 2.5.
So where is the best place to put a Car journal? Pics, future plans, running tally of mods, ect.? I see a few in photo & gallery is that the best place?
