4k into that wrx and you'll smoke almost any car on the road including STI's.

yeah, 26k is without tax title and interest. I'd steer clear of that deal. And seriously, the only thing, IMO, that the STI has over the WRX is really the tranny. Everything else gets modded eventually anyway. If you matched an STi mod for mod with your 06 WRX, You'd still likely be faster up top simply because you don't have those silly short gears. And honestly, I really believe the WRX tranny is only weak if you suck at driving stick. If you drop the clutch at 5k rpms, you will likely be one of the statistics. If you slip the clutch like you are suposed to, you will be just fine. STi trannys will break doing the same thing. If you take care of it, and shift it properly, it will last just fine.

And if you break your tranny, a PPG gearset is still cheaper than getting a full STi 6speed driveline. And if you ask 6MTizzle, an 04 STi owner, he'll tell you that he likes my PPG 5speed gearset way more than the 6speed.

Well the theory is the 04-06 sti gearing is best suited for the jdm 2 liter motor and turbo. Regardless, the reality is the pre-07 usdm sti with vf39 is lag spool shift... Drive my tr with vf39 (or rabbits) back to back with a stage 2 sti and you'll see. And readymix is spot on. If you drive right you won't be blowing your gears with much less than a 20g. Brembos are nice bling but the 4 pot
2 pot stops really well and fit a better variety of rims. You also have aluminum control arms and less weight. I had mine corner weighted at 3025 with 10gallons of gas

I went through the same mental battle with my WRX. In the end, it wasn't worth it. I've already got so many mods done, I'd have to put all the time into going back to stock and putting everthing on my new car, plus all the loss in tax and the dealer making out ahead. If I had to do it again, I would have bought an STI, but I was barely comfortable spending the money on the WRX at the time. I love my 2005 WRX now and appreciate it greatly. I'll keep making it the car I want and have fun doing the work.

Those awesome STi seats have less lateral support than the TR seats. You'd be better off keeping the TR seats, or getting something aftermarket

By the time my car is fully tuned, I should be around 300 whp, with sway bars, and street wheels, my car is lots of fun, and probably more fun the 90% of all the STIs out there. I've got about $4k into it and I appreciate it more than I would have if I had just bought it off the showroom floor in the condition it is now.

Ok, Taras Syndrome. But I'm not going to waste my time on you like I did on him. I'm going to do the reverse psychology thing. So here goes....

Buy the STi, sounds like a great deal. You aren't getting burned at all on the price, it's way less than a new STi and is a hell of a good financial decision. There is nothing on this forum that can compete with a stock 04 STi, and the seats are absolutely the best seats ever put into a car EVER. You'll be the fastest thing on the road, and nobody will be able to beat you.

I'm now signing off this thread. I can only handle one ignorant fool per fiscal year.

Good decision, not worth going further debt for that car. Even though I love my 05 STi, I am starting to get annoyed by my gears. Tranny is solid as a rock, but I end up shifting far too much at HPDE events. Have I made similar trades...yes (although not as much of a financial hit)! Would I do it again...if I really wanted the car and the wife allowed it. Wives are, many times, the voice of reason that you need to stay financially right side up. In your case, financially and vehicle wise, you're better off with the 06.

Now, are we going to see a WTB thread for mods?

can't believe I just saw this thread today...lol $19k trade-in for any 06 WRX TR is a good trade-in...IMO Plus the tax savings for your trade-in of $19k is....$1235...So in reality your trade-in is worth $20235, but still buying a $24k 04 STi with 30k + you owe $1500 -equity...even though your only paying taxes on $3765 which is good the neg. equity killz...plus adding back what u owe...FTL

Don't listen to Pete..."If I'm going down the hole might as well go down with the car u want" you'll end up losing both cars in the long run...

*Pete honestly your a ******* for thinking like that* GO OUT WITH A BANG!
