I keep seeing the terms thrown out for certain model types of the WRX/STI, can someone clear up what years correspond to the bugeye, blobeye, etc? I found the following out there on another site and was hoping someone on here could add the more recent models? *Bugeye: 2002-2003 USDM WRXs (2001-2002 outside US) *Blobeye: 2004-2005 WRX/STI (not sure about outside US) *Hawkeye: 2006-2007 WRX/STI (not sure about outside US) Bugeye: Blobeye: Hawkeye:
I haven't heard any names for anything past 2007. I've been hearing people call everything from 2008-2014 the GR's. But haven't heard what a 2015/16 is referred to yet.
2015 + are "thebestonesyeteye" or sometimes referred to as Raptoreye, lol. The official chassis code is VA so you will probably start to hear that once "new" is worn out. Most likely haters will come up with VAginal references too..
Newer cars after 07 were so lacking in character that no one bothered to give them a cute name. GRs are usually called "GR" or "Mazda3".
At least with the WRX, 08-10 seem to go by "narrow body", while 10-14 go by "wide body". I wouldn't say the 08+ STi's and 11+ WRX's lack character...
