'04 WRX wagon, no engine mods (just suspension). I stumbled upon some documentation on the Cobb AP 2 saying that a Stage 1 ECU flash can yield up to 260 hp at the crank (30 hp over stock ?!?!) on an '04 without any engine mods at all. Couple Q's: I'd love the ECU flash, but I don't want to spend $600-700 on a Cobb AP since I won't be doing any crazy modding on this car anyway. Could someone who owns an AP just flash the ECU for me for a small fee or a case of beer??? ...or is it best to just go get a custom one-time tune somewhere? Once more for emphasis -- I have no engine, intake, or exhaust mods. Last one: I take my rex to MnTonka Subaru for regular scheduled maintainance. Is there a good chance they would re-flash it to stock every time I bring it in?
From my limited knowledge of AP's, I've come to understand that once an AP flashes an ECU, it is then married to that particular ECU. So...if it were me, I'd look into getting an openecu tune from someone like bullwinkle. I could be wrong.
A. Buy my AP, I just put it up for sale. It will work on your car. B. shouldn't have a problem with tonka subaru guys. PM them if you have any questions. C. A AP owner cannot flash your car as it marry's itself to your car. Only works on one car. D. Contact Bullwinkle and see if he would give you a custom road tune. E. Yes, even a stage 1 tune feels sooooo much better than stock. Yes, it's about 255 at the crank, maybe 200 at the wheels
+1. I was thinking about doing a full out stage 2 setup with 3inch catless TBE. My car came with a catless up, so I didn't need to do that. I slapped on a GM BCS (thanks shibbs) and had Bullwinkle tuned the car. Personally I love it. I'm pushin, depending on the temp outside, right around 17lbs of boost. The car is quite (see scuba steve's threads about cops + exhaust) and the speed is good for me... at least for now. Just my $.02
I don't think Nate has a Protuner license. His tuning would be limited to romraider for ecu (rom) editing. You could certainly take an AP rom and flash it to an ecu with ecuflash (rather than using the AP hardware).
Don't listen to Sheen he blows motors up ... ohh wait ... nevermind I say do what you think will work out best for you. A) AP - there are many set maps already in it, yeah there "off the shelf" maps but they will get you what you are trying to achieve B) Bullwinkles tunes - I as well as many others have had great success with his tuning skills, although you do have to pay him cash money every time he sits in your car. After my turbo upgrade (if ever) I will be near the price of a AP *used* but with so much more potential.
You must have skipped over the nevermind part. As far the the potential thing goes on my first Bullwinkle map maybe pushing 16.5psi I managed to beat Scuba Steve every race by two cars (while he was *claiming* 18psi on his Cobb map). Otherwise since that first map I have seen Nate twice more, and the injector tune took some time $$$ but its all good. In fact I should try and see him next week for a follow up session, maybe get a better tune on a cool night and tune for my inlet and my LC-1 that now works.
Yeah, Chet sends me more text messages then my girlfriend does. C'mon Chet, we all love ya', but fo-serious. :hsugh::biggrin:
