We'll need some more information, what year is your wagon and where are you looking for upgrades? Also, 3k rpms @ 70 sounds about normal, my car is usually running around that at 70. It's a 4 cylinder, they spin higher revs than larger displacement motors do. It has nothing to do with you accelerating, it's all in the gearing.
Hey all, I have a PSM 02 WRX sedan and I just moved to St. Louis Park. I just graduated college and have my first real job so I am looking to start having some real fun with this car pretty soon.
Hi! The my wagon is a 2007, brand new M/T 2.5i. It's just the regular 2007 wagon. Since I don't have the turbo, or anything except a stock engine I want to increase the horsepower and acceleration. I figured I could do that a bit by upgrading the exhaust, and adding an intake. The stock muffler is an eyesore, so that's the first thing I was planning on doing, which will also give me some hp, right? Later I also plan to add a short shifter. I don't know a lot about cars, but have always been pretty interested, and figure now that I have a car that I really like, it's time to get envolved. Please let me know if you have suggestions about what I should do first, or what my best options are. Thanks for the info on RPMs. Like I said, my car is brand new. I read the owners manual and found out I'm not supposed to get over 4k rpms till I put 1000mi on it, so I was worried that if I'm at 70mph and steadily holding 3k I might have messed something up. Kayaro
Hey everyone! I hope you are all doing well, my name is Bee and I'm new here. Oh and I don't really ride xtreme either. I've had my 2002 WRX wagon since last March and I haven't done anything thing to it because honestly I know barely anything about anything when it comes to cars. I just have my windows tinted, HIDs, new rims and wheels, and a BOV. lol please don't hate on the BOV I love it. =D I hope you are all very friendly because I'm going to need a ton of ridiculous questions answered.
Kayaro, there aren't a whole lot of power adding mods for your car, but you do have a few exhaust/intake/pulley options. You'll probably want to keep your stock headers, they're an equal length design and apparently flow very well. You'll likely have to switch your oil pan if you want to go with a different option. Also, the exhaust flange is rotated from what it was in years past on non turbo Subarus, you can actually use the axleback off of a turbo Subaru, so a Prodrive or Magnaflow or Stromung WRX axleback (provided it's not a 3in pipe) and it'll bolt up just fine. Here is a thread from someone in your shoes asking most of the same questions: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1212571&highlight=2007+2.5i+exhaust Bee, welcome to the club. Before you start asking "ridiculous questions" check out this link first: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=533787 It's Unabombers Manifesto. He's done a guide on just about every question you could ever ask with your car. Take some time to read it and you'll be amazed what you'll learn in a short period of time. It'll save you the trouble of having to post and wait for replies and you get the bonus of learning the stuff on your own. Win/win for you. Also, you'd be amazed what a search on Nasioc will turn up for information, you can spend hours reading and still find more to look at.
Qustions are good!!!! start askin!!! +1 on the HIDs... ilove mine!! welcome to the club!!! swing into firestone on university on friday nights!!! show off your ride!!
Thanks a lot Brian! I admit that I'm a bit overwhelmed with all that I've been reading, but it's fun and I'm slowly learning. Your help is much appreciated!
New to the subi world, old school honda guy just converted. (Sort of) Just picked up a 06 wrx wagon limited. Just wanted to say hi.
I think he meant "Welcome to all" but I could be wrong.... Welcome and be sure to check out the Firestone thread in the events area.
Flow Shifting Hi! A friend of mine told me that I could shift in and out of gears, up and down without using my clutch, except for 1st gear and reverse. I believe him, but I'm just worried about causing damage to my car. What is the point of doing this, and what should I be concerned about?
I only do this in cars I don't care about (In my old toyota matrix I'd clutchless shift it 90% of the time) Its only useful for track racing for left foot braking downshifting. You need to be very good at rev matching otherwise it wont go into gear. Upshifitng is easy, just hold it against the gate until it goes in. You can only clutchless shift at certain rpm matches though.
Hello Everyone- I'm Carly- Hallywood (Josh) told me to sign up for this Subaru club and I went on the LaCrosse trip (you might have seen my black 2.5 RS with absolutely no mods :-P). Just wanted to say Hi, thanks for the super fun trip!
Hi Folks-I am AK and was invited by Brian Shorten to join. I had asked a question on the nasioc board, which was answered by Brian, who then invited me to join this board. Happy to be here, on a local forum !
Brian, thank you. My 17x8 Forged JDM BBS STI 5x100 +53 offset wheels have been shipped. Eagerly awaiting them. I also purchased some 04 BBS STi wheels yesterday, from a nasiocer. After both these sets get to me, I will decide on which to put on my wagon. Currently, I am leaning towards the 17x7.5 but the 17x8 certainly is tempting (even though I am a bit of a chicken, since mine is a wagon without the flares) ! :yumyum:
Hi all, I recently became the proud owner of a silver 2004 WRX 4EAT sedan. I'm 33, and make my living as a game developer (computer/console games, but also serious gov/mil training sims). Living in Plymouth right now but I grew up in Duluth. I came across the website from a google search, from the reading I've done it feels like a great community here . The car has no mods yet (aside from window tinting) but I'm planning to take it to at least stage 2. I'm so not a car guy (but trying) so I'm sure I'll have a few noob questions (be kind please). Grey
Welcome Grey. Make sure to come to Firestone on University on Friday nights. I think I wll be going this Friday and I drive right through Plymouth if you want to either follow or tag along. We are working on a new area that will have some write ups in it. Hope to have it up soon.
Hi everyone, I acquired an '03 wrx 5mt in march '07. It has a greddy blow-off valve, hyame exhaust (that's what the tag says), AEM intake, and just replaced the stock clutch with an ACT stage 1 clutch. I blew through the stock rear diff within a month of owning the car (yes, i'll take the blame for that, i was launching), which was replaced with a stock diff since cusco was taking forever to ship one to me. but anyways.... I've always been into subies and i've seen the mnsubaru.com stickers on a few cars and this forum seems to be the more popular forum amongst subie enthusiasts. i hope to gain more knowledge here. talk to you all later.
hey i am a noob i have a 2007 CGM WRX. i saw a sticker on a wrx driving around and i decided to check this out. hopefully i can learn some usefull things and get some help with my car.
Greetings all, I guess I can't relay any story yet of my subaru purchase, but that's what drew me here in the first place - doing all the homework, and getting to know the local folks a little better. Currently driving a '91 explorer, definetly don't want another winter in it.
I guess I should post here... I purchased my black '07 WRX limited from Ray about two weeks ago. Already managed to put 1000 miles on it. love driving the car! Chuanpreza always talked how fun the mnsubaru people were, so I had to join myself and see.
Hi all, 2005 WRX STI (White/Gold BBS) owner here bought my car back in April from Milwaukee, WI. I have done a few mods TBE (not installed), drop in filter, silencer delete, iridium plugs, ordered COBB Accessport. Looking to meet up with other Subaru enthusiast.
Hey all, I've posted a couple times, but thought I would say hello here as well. A little history about myself: I'm 30 years old. Married and have the 1st kid on the way. I work selling acoustical / soundproofing stuff, and our company is one of the most comprehensive in the country. I've been helping build and co-driving for a MkII Volkswagen Golf GTI with (formerly the SCCA) now the Rally-America for a numbe of years. I recently upgraded from a 1998 POS Saturn to an 02 WRX which I am just now learning about. Anyway, I am not a newbie to car forums, I am just green to the Subies, so I greatly appreciate all the help I can get. I know how to use the search feature, but my initial questions may seem very rookie - becaue I don't knowanything about this car.. This is my 1st forced induction car, and my first boxer. The car is pretty much completely stock, but I just ordered a prosport boos gauge yesterday. I don't have any real "plans" for the car simply from a monitary standpoint with a kid on the way. I just wanted to get out of a piece of plastic into a "real" car. Anyway, hello from St. Bonifacius (home) / Chaska (work) -Ted
Welocme everyone. If you are in the twin cities area make sure to try and show at Firestone on University Ave near Snelling on Friday night. Usually a few people there by 7 but most don't start rolling in till 8 or so. On a normal night it is 90+% Subarus. I feel lazy right now having just gotten back from a short trip so do a title search for Firestone if you want more info.
hello, my name is nick. i own an 04 sti. aspen white, k&n drop in filter, invidia non polished downpipe (cateless), and an blitz nur-spec axel back, sporting a set of bfgoodrich kdw2. friends and myself like to take pictures to the best of our ability. i am into drag and autocrossing. i work at a toyota dealership. just wanted say hey and plan on helping the best i can and improving the subie to it's full potential.
Hey guys. I'm Dave and I just bought an 07 satin pearl STi. I pick it up at the end of the week. No mods yet and wont have any for a while. Coming from Honda, this is my first Subie and first ever new car buy. I'm happy to be part of the Subaru community and am excited to learn more about my ride.
wow, all sorts of new people! best way to get to know members are go to Firestone and smaller meets around town, then do events like the Duluth cruise or the ice races~! welcome all
Dude, as someone who came from a civic SI, you'll love the car. For me I got so sick of everytime I parked somewhere I wondered if I would come back to my car or not. You'll also notice that subaru owners actually wave to each other, unlike the honda owner who always wanna race to see who's fart machine can make the louder fart sound. Buying my subaru was one of the best buys i've done since my jeep (Sold it because I no longer live in mountains, no need for a rock crawler).
I just saw this thread, I guess I should say hello. Hi, I'm Greg. I bought my first Subaru back in October 02 when I bought my WRX Wagon. In late 2005 I sold it and recently rejoined the Subaru clan when I picked up my 1994 Legacy SS. I've been an active Subaru member in Hawaii and Colorado and now I'm here. I live out in Plymouth and am looking forward to meeting a few of you at the Firestone(s). If anyone is in need of assistance in installing any basic bolt-ons (Suspension, exhaust, brakes) I have extensive experience (14 Suspensions, 8 TBE's, 3 uppipes, 4 Caliper/Rotor replacements, Various swaybar and bushing replacements, steering rack bushings, etc.) and can offer up a garage/driveway for weekend install stuff. I live out in Plymouth. The Legacy is the Cranberry color. If you happen to see a Silver M5 with "ETCHY" plates, you've also seen me. Throw up a shocker/wave and I'll respond if I see you. -Greg P.S. I am currently a UofM student. You can find me either parked around West Bank, or driving between Plymouth and Downtown (394, 169, 94, last stretch of 35W before it ends).

Hi all, Been a member for almost a year but never seem to make time to get on here. I'm finishing up my last year at UMD and am pursuing glassblowing as a business/career for the time. I own an '02 Outback which only has enough cargo space to fit my entire glassblowing display/demo equipment that I tote around the state doing art shows when I put my Thule on the top. Only mod so far is a cold air intake but would like to add more when they go hand in hand with efficiency (not that its helped much). I'm somewhat mechanically inclined and really appreciate all the knowledge everyone offers. A project I will tackle in the next 6 months is to start making glass shifter knobs! I've already made glass beer tap handles as well as pan handles so I've got the concept. Let me know if anyone has interest and I will keep educating myself about my transportation. Thanks again, Dan
Etchy, I also go to the U of M. Keep an eye out for a green GM4 (2.2l 2door) I am normally parked in the huron lots. I also cruise 394 pretty much every day.
(Old) Newbie Glad I found this site after spending endless hours on NASIOC and Cobb forums. Recently picked up my 07 WRX Wagon Ltd. after suffering 2 years with a company Impala!!! Prior to that I had a nicely modified 02 Bugeye wagon that I loved (and never should have sold). Looking forward to meeting some of you and checking out other vehicles soon. Sean Parque de San Luis
Yeah if you read any forums I am always being criticized. Don't worry I ask the dumb questions so you don't have to. Someone's gotta be the TEAM PLAYER?
I'm sorta a subie newbie I've been in the community since about 2001, just never on the boards. Female, 26, married to Subersteroo. I work for a Nonprofit in St Paul. Drive an '02 Outback VDC. (currently in the shop) Catch up with ya'll later! DM
