Thanks! It's "Sedona Red" but I have been thinking of it as "Northern Autumn Camouflage." This is mostly b/c red is a colour that neither my wife nor I would choose for a car - given the option. Yet we are 3 for 6 on red cars. However, this is the best red we have had and, loving the car, it is growing on us more and more.

<--- The last red car. As I think about it, it has been the red cars that were the ones worth owning. Go figure, eh.

uhhh, I am pretty much newb, and MNSubaru is a very supportive club. Thankfully they all did stop and even helped. Some people on here can come off as ****s but you just seriously have to let that **** go, it's the internetz yO. And once you actually get to know them you'll find out we are ****ing around. Most the burns on here are not taken seriously and when and if they are, THREAD LOCK. So welcome to the club.

Welcome to the forum Bobby and congrats on the new Subie! Sorry to hear that you had a bad experience with a member, but I can say that it was most likely an isolated incident. I've only been here for a short time and can say that this group is full of alot of the "do anything to help you out" type of people!

Don't take anything too seriously when it comes to smack talking. Most are just having fun. Look here>> http://www.mnsubaru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7485

Hope to see you down there sometime!:)

    Don't hate me because I drive a chevy. ;)

Of course mine has a supercharger on it! I wouldn't waste my money on one otherwise. Chevy did stop calling the other one "ss" though. now its the sport model.

Hey everybody. Name is Kyle Rasmusson. Just thought I would hop on here and say what up to everyone. Just started a sales position at Subaru of St.Cloud. I am currently talking with the owner to work out some discounts on parts and labor for club members so I will keep you posted on that. Not a subie owner as of yet, but hope to change that soon. Anyone needs anything at all, drop me a line on here.

Hello from the West Side of St. Paul!

    Hello folks...

Into here, noob that has coveted an Outback for many years....

I am just about to pull the trigger on a '98 OB 2.5L M/T but am VERY worried about the HG issues. I NEED this vehicle to run. Being stranded in the middle of NE is NOT an option as it will be a work vehicle.

When the HGs fail, is it typically a "sudden" failure or do you have a chance of getting home if you are VERY mechanically inclined (former HD diesel tech) and keep the coolant up - or are you SOL?

Another thing I considered is just swapping off the HGs in there with the ones from the 2.5L turbo. But, from all the notes and threads I have seen it seems like everyone has removed the entire engine to accomplish this. Not something I really have time for before spring.

I know LOTS of people who own, or have owned Suby's, and not one has much negative to say about them, except for the A/Ts on some models.

    Any advice is VERY welcomed.

When your head gaskets fail your not gonna know right away... Subarus can run for a while with them being bad. But when they do go. We at Morries have the perfect solution for ya. Turbo'd head gaskets for the same price (close to) as normal head gaskets.

Thanks! That is JUST what I was hoping to hear.

The car is said to be Morries maintained, so hopefully they are not telling me stories.

Looks like I need to get my checkbook out today!

bielke is only KIND of right on that one...the turbo headgaskets are for the SOHC 2.5, HOWEVER, they do have an updated quad layer head gasket for the 2.5, they will never EVER blow again, how many miles are on the car?

Around 200K, from the comments here and other places, I gather there is a near zero chance the gaskets are original to the engine at this point.

Thanks, I saw some post here about updated gaskets, but did not understand that there was more than one (the renumbered stock gasket), or that they finally actually have a real fix.

My theory is that since cylinder pressures can easily be 1.5 - 2 times the design limits under knock conditions that when the knock sensors fail and the CEL is ignored for a period of time, it takes out the HGs. Don't know, but the knock sensors seem to be a fairly common problem, about as common as HGs.

Thanks A LOT for all the help.

Yes, they are very common, we see them here at least one time a day, and a million phone calls about them. but when the knock sensor goes out, it retards the timing ALL THE WAY, so there is no knock whatsoever thats why the are so slow when they go out, i doubt it has any effect on h/gs though.

Oh, yup that would not cause the HG failures, in fact that is the most safe condition for reducing knock. Good to know.

I suppose at some point I should give a formal introduction. My name is Amber. I've had my 02 WRB WRX for 2 1/2 years. It was purchased to serve as a 'family car,' mostly because of the four doors and AWD. Now I like it for so much more. I went on the Duluth trip and went from being a passive consumer of the brand to a promoter. I'll get pictures taken some day.

+1, and we have dyno plots and logs to prove it. Last year, about this time, we put mine and Larry's RSes on the LSE dyno, and his was about 20whp down on mine with identical mods. One knock sensor later, and the cars were within 1whp of each other on the same dyno in February.

Hey everyone...I'm kind of re-introducing myself here. I currently have a 99 Subaru Impreza 2.5rs and will be upgrading to a WRX in the near future after I graduate (this spring).

I used to sporadically post here, but never consistently...this time around I will stick around a little more! I doubt any of you actually remember me, but hopefully I get to know some of you!

Well we checked out that '98 Outback, and it had been hit in the LR (although lightly) and had cancer on the rear hatch near the handle.

So we passed on it. It drove well for over 200K, but just too much $$$$ for the condition.

Hi! I'm Natalie Johnson, but I go by Nat. I came over to Subaru (was a LOYAL Pontiac driver) after PKSublime showed me how great the culture is with Subaru's. I drive a de-badged 2002 2.5 RS that's silver and I am making as much of it pink as possible :)
In a little over 200 days I will be Mrs. PKSublime.
One question: I want pink seat covers and the regular seat covers look really baggy on these seats. Any recommendations?
