This spring I decided to embark on a new project after some late night browsing of FB marketplace. I missed my ultra clean 1993 legacy touring wagon and had been on the lookout for one. Meet ****wagon: Found it in Missouri and had it transported to Illinois. The interior and underside are showroom perfect, the hood seems to have met an angry ex girlfriend at some point, and the roof has a literal hole in it. Its the perfect candidate for something ridiculous so I’ve been hoarding parts for the last several months in preparation. Here’s a sneak peek of one of the items Swapped the trans to a 6MT (thanks @Quinn for answering my many questions). Due to a mishap I got some hotboy wheels. More updates to come soon.
Update. Worked on the rear end this weekend. Swapped the subframe to a new WRX one, 04 STI R180 and hubs, beatrush diff support, truhart adjustable control arms, 2 pots and stainless lines. Got the Fortune 500 coilovers installed, still working on getting the height just right without rubbing. I went with a 17 inch wheel so I could run bigger brakes up front, but it’s limiting how low I can go. Waiting for the sway bars and endlinks to arrive (Black Friday sales are always good). My longblock was dropped off last week, waiting for tear down to determine how much needs to be refreshed. A few more things were ordered from Link today and I’m hopefully picking up another pile of parts this month (headers, clutch and catch can set-up) can’t believe how quickly this project is coming together.
I need more pics! This gen has become one of my favorites over the last few months. Definitely wouldn't mind picking up one of these wagons
Last weekends shenanigans. Front brakes done (budget “brembos”), fitment with the SSRs is perfect. I had to source a new swaybar, the random whiteline one I found in my garage didn’t fit. Luckily a friend had one, and it fit wonderfully (no pics, sorry). Bled the brakes and the pedal is still soft, gonna replace the master and booster to see if that helps. Raised the front a touch so the tires don’t rub, still much lower than oem. Excited for the “p” fuel rails from Outfront for my longrunner 2.5 intake. Motor disassembly apparently started this week as well.
Photo dump and progress update - not much to report. Replaced the rear swaybar and mounts. Now my endlinks rub, need to flip my adjustable arms or source some different ones. Injectors back from testing, a little off but since I’m using a standalone we can adjust cylinder compensation for the highs and lows. Peep these fancy headers and what I’m really jazzed about - I’ve secured a custom FMIC kit from a 1st gen for rotated manifold. Last piece to the puzzle (besides actually making everything work) The next 3 months are when things should get crazy. Hope to have this thing running in May.
