The thing about rumors is they're often true as some of you have witnessed, wondered and have asked how did I ever get my hands and feet to move so fast. Well the secret is I have many years of training in mixed Martial Arts and currently have a Black Belt in Karate waxing cars jk lmao. Actually I'm just able to see everything unfold a lot quicker them most and I'm always working to stay ahead of the 8 ball. I knew that you guys were working hard to keep up and after the first few laps of losing you guys I decided it would be best for me to slow down to reduce any chances of having a bad situation and I'm glad I did. The three cars were exceptional although they experienced the typical Subaru understeer syndrome. But with a little luck, some rain and a simple advance weight transfer technique we were able to get some pretty good looking drifts, well at least that's what I thought from the screams coming from the passenger seat. I did my best to get some pretty serious angles and just hang it out there for about as long as she'll let me. I was limited in how many different techniques I could apply as they were all WRX's and I didn't want to take any chances in damaging them. The rain was a blessing in disguise, as it really helped in getting these cars to drift properly transitioning from one corner into the next effortlessly instead of looking like we're just trying to connect one to another with a pause in between. It definitely made it a lot more challenging to video tape and drive in for most as you all saw 95% of the class was gone by 2:30pm. But I love the rain and enjoyed every moment of it. I'm glad you were able to get a glimpse of what your car capable of driving in these conditions and I hope my driving has inspired you and the others in a positive way. Tokyo drift NO NO! The driving style you saw was completely for show and not much in the way of speed or any intentions of going fast. The appropriate speeds were applied only to allow the car to achieve maximum drifting angles. This style of driving requires just as much focus as the other except your goal is not to get too greedy and exceed such an angle that you cannot return from. Fast laps will be the squeal so please stay tuned.
I agree. The rain was a lot of fun. I thought drifting was probably even more fun than taking corners at double the speed in the dry. Maybe I should switch my car to RWD and become a drifter...
I wish there were some pics of the "looking through the door windows" driving! I <3 drifting...it's the reason why i RallyX! And the GR's are more prone to understeer are they not? When i used to drive Lexies 08 STi, it felt like a big sloppy boat in comparison to my GD.
I tried to take photos for 3 laps and Chong ran into a minivan at the last corner every time (the corner I was at!).
Just for you next time I'll wear a GoPro on my melon so you can see where I'm looking, don't be surprised if I'm not looking in the right places. lol They are but in the conditions we had on Saturday in addition to the tune I'd say it was very manageable. My initial testing in the morning when it was dry told me I'll have to be a bit more creative with the cars. I think I hit two cones if not more, one with the X for sure broad siding it as if I was swinging a bat launched that baby into the air. lol Well Ben if we get lucky and I get my 240sx back out before this summer's over you're more then welcome to hope in and see the difference. Or maybe you won't lol.
Yeah, the rain definitely made things easier to get some slip. I would love to drive a real drift car!
Because statistics show you could from an accident going 14 mph. 120 mph is a pretty high achievement to obtain at BIR.
120mph didn't seem that hard to get to, even on the short course (and I was on the stock turbo). On the long course I was in the 140's.
Yeah I thought Chong's comment was weird too. I was the "slow" one and I was hitting 120 on the short course.
The only thing weird is we're all taking about the same thing, or are we? Going around a road course hitting 120 mph in the fastest section, turn 2. Not to it but rather thru it. Yes, we're all over achievers in our minds lol Sorry I should've been more specific but I just assumed we were all on the same page. It's easy to do right guys? Hehe
Well, that doesn't make much sense. The fastest section is the really long straight part. I usually went about 120mph in the straight and then slowed down to about 20mph for the turn. Turning fast is unsafe.
Yeah, it's annoying that you had to drive like 2 miles through twisty roads to get back to the straightaway again.
My 08 would only hit about 115 before I had to slow down to turn, she pulled hard out the corner but nothing on top.
Where was this magic juice you're talking about when we were last at BIR? Wait didn't it make your car disappear in a rear view mirror a few times? Wait Don't answer that. lol
