Wow, pretty amazing Ben! Looking forward to your write up on it! I didn't think that your car could get more badass-er, but it did.
This is just my personal opinion but I've liked pretty much everything you've done to the car. I think it's gorgeous, not a trace of rice or hellaflush. Nothing gaudy just a clean looking elegant machine.
But no one ever wants to race me. Spinners look good, but they'll probably break eventually. Especially with MN winters.
That's what I was afraid of. Hope you're alright. Looking forward to seeing the new setup on track soon especially because she looks stock ish....
One of the slowest looking fast cars I have ever seen. You, John, and myself need to go on a little afternoon cruise in the boonies this spring
Yeah Maybe I'll have to do something about that someday... I think Moleness and I might be a good run. Little different power and gearing. Might be interesting.
Sweet pic man. I dig the reflection on the wheel vs the standard light box shot. I take it these are in your possession now due to the BJ tag on the photo. Did you end up getting those Federal Tires?
Yep, I have 3 of them, lol. I used a black background and reflective surface. I've done this a couple times, but it always takes a lot more work to get them looking right. But for light colored items it can look good. I haven't ordered any tires yet. I think it will be a while before it warms up.
Yeah, 17x9" +35 and 15.8lbs. I think they only need a little spacer to clear the Brembo's. They should clear my little brakes just fine. PS. Nuke and I were out on East River Road last night
I'm still working on the write up, but hopefully it will be soon. Also, car seat is in. Fit fine with my seating location. Rear visibility is partially blocked, but not too bad. And this arrived today. I'll be installing it tomorrow if everything goes to plan.
And here's some more pics of the wheels. I figure I took them, so I might as well post them. Lol. Enkei RPF1 17x9" +35 15.8lbs And some with the caps installed. White background this time.
I fully support the 6-speed swap, DCCD, and Enkei RPF1's...just what this car needed to make it a more practical...race car Are upgraded brake fluid/pads/rotors up next? (if they haven't been done already). Maybe a rear LSD also?? I'm looking forward to seeing the RPF1's in the +35 on that car - should look nice! As far as tires - I ran the Federal RSR's (used and rather worn) at the end of last season and they still gripped surprisingly well - Chong can attest to this. I'm not sure what you're plans are for the car, but if its racing, I would definitely recommend the RSR's, new Star Spec II's, or RS3's. Anyway, hopefully we both make it to some of the same track events so we can battle it out
I know Ben has the fluid down, we changed that a few times. Super Blue or Super Blue (Gold) depending on which change it is. I also was there for the installation of the SS brake lines. I believe he has stop tech pads.
^Yep, that's correct. I decided to try the RSR's. Good reviews from what I've seen and they're cheaper than the ZII's or RS3's. Supposedly last longer too.
Thanks to Chris for getting these mounted up for me! Hopefully someday it will be warm enough to put them on. Federal 595 RS-R's mounted onto 17x9" RPF1's. They're quite a wide 255. Possibly wider than the Star Specs I had last year.
Welcome to the dark side! You won't be disappointed. I've got 2 full seasons of autocross on my set, they just needed a little more heat by the end of last year to stick, but still a great tire.
That's great to hear that they last. As someone who's car spends 99% of it's time on the street it would be great if they can put the power down (without having to heat them up extensively) as well as last me a couple summers (with light track use).
I had 255/40R17 Star Specs on the car last summer as well. Hopefully these new ones will be as sticky or stickier.
I feel the grip is on par with the Star Specs, maybe even a little better when cold. They seemed more predictable when reaching their grip limit, and seemed to regain composure with less input and faster than the Star Specs. Of course, this is all around corners in second gear. I don't know how they will handle your massive amounts of power in straight line . I do plan on running my current set as my daily driver set for at least this summer and picking up a new set for autocross.
Online Tires But make sure to check a few places for prices and what's in stock. A lot of times they're out of stock and Online Tires doesn't tell you until after they've taken your money. I found this out when I tried to order them from Online Tires last year...
