Airbags are supposed to deploy at around 15mph at immediate deceleration............LAWSUIT!! Or much faster depending on how much the thing you are hitting gives. Did you take out the tree? Up at my parents lake place I have a Ford Fiesta that I use for a four wheeler. We would drive that about 20+ miles an hour into trees just to see if we could take the tree down. It had a solid steel bumper and never once collapsed on me. Although I did blow out first gear on the transmission driving in reverse real fast and throwing it into first.......................
no but he loved mine to death and my moms too...if he didn't get his fj he'd be in a stage 2 sti right now
Stop giving advice on airbags. Jeff, what did you hit with the front end and how fast were you going? Also, was it a straight on hit or were you angled at all? Airbags have a very, very specific set of parameters of situations where they will or will not go off. Depending on the impact, you could've been injured worse if they had deployed. I center punched a guardrail doing 40ish in my 02 RS and the bags didn't go off because they took enough of the impact to slow the car below the threshold for deployment. There is no way on Earth the bags would deploy with "immediate" deceleration at 15mph. They'd do more damage to you than if they didn't go off.
"Most car companies say a vehicle has to experience an impact that generates at least 7 G's of force before it will trigger the air bag. For most vehicles, this would be the equivalent of hitting a solid barrier at 12 to 15 mph, or hitting another vehicle at a speed of about 25 mph. In reality, the air bag may deploy at higher or lower speeds." http://www.aa1car.com/library/airbag01.htm
i hit a tree at about 30ish sliding somewhat sidways but and hitting the right front headlight side first
Well good luck with everything sir. Hopefully you get some good news. I am heading to bed for the day. See you at the green mill next week.
Then they shouldn't be going off. From past experience, I have yet to see a car hit a solid object at 15mph and deploy airbags, and I've seen a number of them. Stop jumping on the lawsuit bandwagon because you read one internet article that doesn't address the type of impact here.
When mine went off, I was doing between 85 and 100 mph. The weight of the deer and my velocity caused enough deceleration to make the airbag deploy. It wasn't necessary, but the companies, especially at that time of manufacture, don't have that kind of constraint on their radar.
LOL. -Hey dad, come join this website! It's a bunch of guys talking about Subaru's and buttsex! -Wat?
