You guys/gals are going to get sick of me posting about this (if you're not already ;-) Has anyone bothered with noise proofing the hatch area on the 5-door? If so, what method and what are the results? Thanks!
This thread might be helpful. Ted (Gridlocked) has some nice material at a great cost. I did my doors (with his v-max product) and trunk (with the pvc) on my '06 WRX with great results.
I did a bunch of reading on this for the forester XT, and the biggest source of sound are the vent holes in the rear hatch area. There is one vent on each side designed to allow excess pressure out when you shut a door, so your ears don't pop (probably other uses too), but they let a lot of sound in. This is a good thread I found helpful: http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/f77/just-spent-some-time-soundproofing-7534/ Since its a forester, not everything is the same, but the same concepts would apply. I still have not seen a great long term solution for sound proofing those vents without actually blocking airflow through them.
Gridlocked is the man to talk to. I've got a couple layers of material in the back of my wagon and it helped greatly.
You guys rock! Nice to belong to a Forum that actually has a purpose and adults hanging around. Thanks much!
