First I have an 02 wrx.
I need info on my rear break calipers. The rotors have rings of "rust" where the pads aren't hitting. That's on both sides. My question is. Do I replace the pads and rotors and hope that fixes it,or replace the calipers also. If replacement for the calipers is needed what are the options. Staying near stock. No big breaks needed.

Second is more confirming what I think but.... I want to hear from the more experienced people out there. When do you need to have your car tuned? What is involved with having it done? What benefits are gained?

Its normal to see that your pads and rotors will wear like that over time.

To address the tuning thing. The car will run much better with a tune. However you do not need one till you start to swap.major engine and exhaust bits. Talk to nf they can go into it in more detail.

In my opinion, a "Stage 1" tune is the best bang for your buck you can get. Contact NF for the highest quality, yet best priced tune.

stage one tune will flash your cars engine control unit (ecu) and tune it to where your car basically runs a bit smoother giving you a little bit more of a pull feeling when shifting gears.

stage 2 youll have after market parts put in like the boost controller, the intake , downpipe and exhaust system and probably a turbo if your looking in the market. stage 2 from what I have experienced and gathered is where the noticable gains will come. comparing my stock tune to when the stage 2 was flashed is a difference between night and day.

all in all it depends on what you want to do with the car. whether its your daily driver or just a fun project for the track or rally.

For the most part I don't see going wild on this car. Parts are limited so I am concerned about breaking crap. I see a newer car first. It is all stock except I just installed an an SR•S exhaust. I see an intake in the near future. How much would I be looking at for the stage 1 tune?

Thanks guys your help your knowledge Is very helpful.

Also if you get a downpipe and already plan on getting an intake just go stage 2 and not waste money.

Skip the intake and get a K&N drop in filter. Intake won't do **** for you other than lose power.

Also keep in mind when you look for brake parts. 02 WRX is unique to itself ( maybe older models will work). 03 and up brakes won't fit unless you change all brackets etc.

That is a big problem with the 2002-2003 parts suck for finding replacement. Found that when I replaced the power steering pump.
