Not more problems!

    Took my engine to RS motors last weekend to get the cam bolts removed and they just ended up using plasma cutter the get the bolts out. So now im gonna have to replace 3 pulleys and 4 bolts, but that isnt the bad news.

    I finally removed the heads last night and what did I find? Bent exhaust valves in cylinder1!!!:mad: Which probably means a rod bearing went.

    So i need some advice. Should I replace the valves? or buy new heads? Im not sure how to replace the valves so I wouldnt know were to start.

    buy a used complete motor.

    I already have a short block that I bought about a month ago cuz I thought just the bearing went out.

    it might be the easiest at this point to find a set of used heads.

    valves are cheap, buy a set of valves and have a shop put them in along with a valve job and valve seals and call it a day. also have the shop check to see if the heads are flat while they are at it. Rebuilding a set of heads as the result of bent valves is nothing to worry about, it is a basic job for an engine rebuilder.

    Well you just have to take a shot at us there don't you. We wouldn't have had to use the plasma cutter if you didn't round out the bolts from improperly trying to remove them the first time. :roll:

    You also forgot to mention that we only cut off two bolts on the exhaust cams. The drivers side intake cam was removed without harm and there was no passenger intake cam sprocket when you dropped it off. So did you ruin that one?

    I was kinda wondering why anyone would use a plasma cutter to remove a bolt. Still- why not just drill the heads off the bolts? I've had to do that before on WRX cams.

    I greatly appreciated you guys getting them out for me. Yes i did break the right intake sprocket. I also didnt mean to make sound like you were the bad guys. Anyway THANKS

    If I were to replace the valves would I just have to replace the bent exhaust ones or all the valves for that cylinder?

    Any shop recommendations?

    I would replace the bent ones for sure and the shop would be able to tell if the others in that cylinder are straight too when they go to grind them for the valve job. They should also check the guides for the valves that were bent as they can be damaged, none of which is costly to replace/repair. North of the cities I prefer B & A Cylinder Head (763)-427-7535 ask for Matt. I have known him since high school and he is an excellent machinist/engine builder, if you call him tell him Brady sent you. In the cities/south cities Ron at Cedar Machine also does good work(I am not sure if he is still in business, it has been a long time since I have used him and I have since lost his number. None the less there should be a competent shop in your area, just takes a few phone calls. I know Matt at B & A will take care of you though,(he is swamped right now)
