the one by 35e and wheelock, that one is non oxy on all 92 I believe the one on dale and county rd b (i think), that one has the non oxy pump, the other pumps are oxy. Some have them, some don't. Look around and you'll see.
The 04 had a problem with OL/CL transition. This was further evident when the exhaust was opened up. I was one of the first people to experience it. I think I even got blasted for mentioning it on Nasioc. I was stock, running Amoco 91 in California. I rounded a corner on a hot day, gave it 3/4 throttle and the car sputtered and knocked like it wanted to explode. I limped the car home and took it to the dealership. They found nothing wrong and sent me home. Didn't happen again, I got an AP after that happened.
Not really Taras, you normally don't get the knock sensor to set a CEL unless the sensor itself is bad. Look up the whole list of CEL's, there isn't one for "My engine is making a bad noise and I want a free diagnosis". There are two CEL codes for a knock sensor on a WRX IIRC, they are enabled to set the CEL if the circuit is open, or shorted. You may have some experience with the same noises, but please keep the tech advice of what he/she should replace to remedy the problem.
Violent knock can be interpreted as misfire, could it not? If it does you get a misfire cel. However this thread is not about my knowledge of knocks, cels and ticks and clicks. I am just trying to help, i am not telling him to go put race gas and see if the sound goes away. I just say possible causes of the sound. He might have a bolt loose that is hitting something for that matter.
That could be as well, but I haven't really seen a bad knock ever set a CEL. I have seen a few, as has Wall-O-TV's, and they don't set CEL's, they usually just pull timing on the map.
WMC car did:ugh: But yeah, whatever this sound is its probably not good. If i were him i would log the car and just see what is going on with it. If its not that go to another possible problem. Make a list of things that could be wrong and check them off as you go. Its never bad to check other things to see if they are doing ok.
Holy crap, it's like we need a oxygenated gas FAQ around here. Ethanol is a knock inhibitor. Not only is e10 gas "not bad" for our cars, it will knock less then similar octane non-oxy gas. The only thing non-oxy gas gains you is gas mileage. Period.
What is so bad about SA gas and what is so good about non-oxy BP and Shell gas? This is a question not a smart arse comment btw. Thanks.
I would like to say back on topic but every time Taras says something Jason and 3rik pwn him so pwn on good friends pwn on!
I believe it's the additives they put in their gas, someone can correct me on this. Probably quality also.
SA and Holiday suck! It is the quality and additives. Don't get me wrong I'm sure if you had a STOCK car you wouldn't notice, plus when it comes to filling up my dirt bike I find it runs better on the cheap stuff
taras. seriously, you are getting a grasp on subarus, but you haven't been around long enough to pick it all up. at least half of what you've said has been wrong to some degree. and therefore needed correcting. might as well stop trying to give advice, and just read the advice given to learn more. That way you'll be able to give better advice in the future. can we drop it and keep this thread technical and on-topic? the timing belt tensioner can make a 'knocking' or rattling sound if the spring isn't pushing as hard as it used to. that's one thing I don't like about the EJ t-belt systems, no way to lock down the tensioner. the A/C tensioner on my girlfriend's OBW makes some noise, when we went and looked at it, we got really worried as it makes a pretty nasty noise, but we got the screwdriver out of my dad's car, poked around the engine bay and new exactly what it was.
