Odd sound during cold start up

    Info: 2003 Wrx with Stage 2 Mods and tuned. 162k miles on the dash.

    This happens only on cold start up. When I turn the key to start it, I release it once the engine is cranked over. It sounds like starting the car again when the car is already started. Could it be something with the starter? Any help or idea is appreciated. Thanks

    doesn't sound like a starter to me, the ones i've had go bad make a lot more noise than that.

    Does this happen every time it starts cold? I had an Audi that would do this every once and a while.

    Sounded normal to me. Did you shut it off and start it a couple times? Sometimes power steering will make noise when it is cold. Usually needs to be colder than this though.

    Yes it happens everytime I start the car first thing in the morning.
