I love how it says the 2011 is in the "performance building stage" meaning- the dumb F$cks for mechanics are trying to figure out how to put the thing back together because when we bought it the engine was in the trunk.

Yeah, don't buy a salvage titled car. It's never worth the headaches, unless you know for sure you're going to run it til the wheels fall off.

Some salvage title cars are actually pretty decent depending on who did the work, where it was wrecked/what caused it. Doesn't bother me really if it was repaired properly. Just not worth driving 250 miles to go look at iy and its a junker ya know? Car would be used for autox/track/ect.

Still doesn't make much sense in the context of that gearbox. I'm wondering if they're just grinding trying to roll or downshift into first (old style synchros in that box). Come to think of it, every comment scares me:
"turbo controller so you can adjust your boost" ok, so you (improperly) use your boost controller like the "gain" knob on your amp, huh?
"Alway put in premium never ran unleaded through it" alright, I'll assume you realize the "premium" fuel you're pumping is unleaded... right?
"went in the ditch has dent in passangers door and on rear quarter pannel" Is this real life?
" replaced damaged rim with new one." With the insurance money?
    "has scratches." You don't say?
"Clean Title." Never mind the insurance question above.

Unless you are doing the HG yourself... that is going to be an expensive RS with body damage and rust.

Yeah I am very mechanically abled. I would do the HG myself.

I know its an auto but my dad says he needs it to be an auto. Grrr. Hes got the money though.

I would like a 5 speed but am flexible about it. I suppose I could go through the headache of swapping the trans to a manual in the future though.

I'm almost 19, just so you don't think I'm some 14 year old on here.

    4 years= a **** ton of experience these days?

Who is the car for? You and your pops sharing it?

Double your money and buy a newer turbo model.

I not saying I'm the expert but I have been working on engines of all sorts since I was about ten or so. I have also taken all the shop classes mainly engines/autos that my school has to offer.

Not trying to sound mean or anything.

Also the car is for me, as a daily driver. My dad isn't mechanically inclined like myself, I have had to learn about engines and such on my own, by doing research and a lot of reading, as well as hands on of course. Which is the best part.

There are better deals to be had. I mean, never mind the hg for a second. Even if the frame is straight, that body damage alone is enough to total the car. Makes me wonder if it's salvage titled or why it was never fixed. Reselling that car and not losing your ass, even if you fix it on the cheap, is going to be tough. I'd consider taking it for $1k, sink $1k into it, and drive it into the ground. Beyond that? Pass.

Just to give you an idea, I sold my 98 Impreza "L" last fall for over a grand less than that. And had very little rust, minor dings, and had 215k on the clock.

$3000 for a decent daily driver.

Maybe up to $2000 for a project or car with slight mechanical problems.

Looking for Impreza's specifically, maybe not wrxs though because of the higher insurance.

You sound reasonably responsible so far. For a teenager especially. Welcome.
Do you have a preference on wagon/sedan?
Where are you located and how far are you willing to travel?
I'm assuming cosmetic damage is not an issue. Is that accurate?

Thank you for not treating me like some little kid.

I like the look if the sedans better. Mostly because of rhe steep slope of the rear window.

I live in Coon Rapids, MN and could travel 100 miles depending on the deal.

A decent body, not perfect would be good. I am going up to Fargo, ND for college this fall which is why Subarus are my top choice right now, that and I love boxer engine design.

You haven't acted like a little kid so why would I treat you like one? There are plent
tbh, you're going to find a much better deal on a wagon. Plus, it'll be really useful for college. Open up your search to $4,500 and negotiate down to fit your budget. If you're willing to make a weekend trip out of it, say 3-500 miles one way (up to an 8 hour drive), I'm seeing a good amount of outback sport wagons and a couple bugeye (TS) wagons listed in the 2800-4200 range. Budget a few hundred bucks for winter wheels/tires and you'll be set.
Missouri, NE Kansas, and Ohio are all a day's drive away and the Subaru market there doesn't demand nearly the premium it does up here. Especially private party.
    Good luck with your search.

Good advice - you will definitely find a better deal outside of Minnesota. Actually every Subaru that I've bought has been out of state...ok, 1 Subaru and 1 Saabarus :D

Speaking of Saabarus, you may also want to look into a Saab 9-2x 2.5i (or "Linear"). Same exact thing as an Impreza wagon, with (basically) just a Saab looking front end and different rear. They go for much cheaper than Subaru's and every single mechanical part is Subaru. The only "saab" parts would be the hood, lights, rear hatch, and fenders. The saabarus are also easier to find with nice extras, like heated seats and sunroofs. $3k might be a stretch, but you could get darn close to that price on one with over 100k miles. I recently purchased a Saabaru 2.5i in Indiana and got a smokin' deal on it.

This will be on CL soon unless I decide to pull the trigger in the next few weeks. Never seen a winter. He wants 11k for it.
