I give the guy props on making a convertible Impreza, I would never drive it though. They pretty much ruined the structural integrity of the car by removing the roof. I'm sure that car flexes a lot now.

LOL. He still hasn't finished that thing? FYI, most of the build pics in that thread are about 4 years old.

None of them say anything about the timing belt/idlers being replaced. So that's the first question. The last one seems decent, but see above. It pretty much comes down to, how much you want to spend on repairs/maintenance.

Surprisingly the last one was the one I was looking at the most. I'm going to be doing most the maintenance myself. As long as I don't have to spend $4k/yr on repairs, I'm a-ok.

Question about the last one though, the engine picture looks "rusty" is that a problem?

2 and 4 are from the same seller. Likely purchased at auction and cleaned up. 2 has plenty of miles, but looks clean. You could find a lower mileage one for that price pretty easy. 4 isn't a great deal. The 230k wrx on here is a better deal at $4500. That car has 170k and the rust looks pretty bad. 1 looks like it could be a deal (if an auto is acceptable...) as its been on sale for 20 days. They might lower the price. If it's in good shape that could be a good buy especially if it's up to date on maintenance. You could possibly drive it for a while and sell it for close to what you paid for it. 3.....Well, I drove this car. It's very fast and runs decent. The diff sounds aweful and will need replacing immediately. That could be spendy. It has lots of small issues, but the body is pretty rust free. If you can do all the little things yourself and get that car cleaned up you will get a great deal. But...salvage title! It will be hard to sell even if it's all fixed up. I would only buy it if you intend to own it for at least a few years and are immediately prepared to go to work on it.

    I test drove number 4.

It sat for quite a while and was a bit of a mess when I drove it (Summer 2015) Leaking oil badly, shifter was rough, up close it looks really rough. At the time I could have bought it for 3k, but to me it wasn't worth it. It's pretty rough.

That dealership sucks! I've been there once because I was fooled by a good ad. Heard lots of people have similar experiences.

It's that ORIGINALOWNERAUTOS. All their cars are advertised as great shape and accident free, they take pictures from the best angles, then you get there to look at the car and it's got a big dent and a busted taillight.

Does anyone know anything about this car. Has lowered the price $1000 pretty quickly and claims 400 hp? Doesn't look like its in very good shape. I sent him a text about swapping some parts (STI hood scoop, etc) and he didn't respond.

$3,800 today! Had to go look. Car actually drives decently. Starts and runs smoothly, shifts well, suspension and steering are great. Every body panels has a scratch or dent though. The car has SO much stuff, but just wasn't taken care of. If I bought it I would daily drive it and fix nothing (and I just can't sell my current car as I love it too much), another option would be to buy as a cheap track car. Brakes are $$$$ and are newer, tires new, battery new. Some pics...

I should actually snatch that WRX up.. As long as it's not in utterly trashed condition, I'll probably get it.

Honestly its pretty beat up, but its worth the price. It won't be a car that will impress anyone, but will put a huge smile on your face. I'm still considereding buying it. You could even drive it as is for a few thousand miles. The clutch is going but wasn't aweful. Definitely still daily drivable.

I'd assume that I'd put at least 15k~ miles on it by the time I sell it next year before I enlist in the Navy.

What kind of internals would be needed to get one of these to 400 hp? I am guessing that you can't reach the numbers claimed without major engine work.

These did not get engine internal work. The ESX package consisted of bolt ons, larger turbo, tune, exterior items, suspension, and interior items. You basically give them a stock car and they give you a fully modified car back.

This is a very sweet looking car. The other two will likely have better resale because they are 4 doors and will have a larger market, but this is more unique and its a car that I would definitely enjoy driving. The seller will have a hard time with this car at this time of year, so I would negotiate very strong on the price and see if he will get you a very solid deal.

A 5-speed SC300 is pretty rare, that's why a 96 is still worth as much as the other two. I would argue it will hold it's value better, although it may take longer to sell.

Thank you, I love how he actually took time to write out his ad, and it looks like he's a dedicated owner who takes pride in his car. Plus, it seems like a great price for the car you get. Everything is OEM, and maintained well. Although it is someone else's project, it seems like an exception for how artistic it looks.

It's a 5 speed from a JDM Soarer, but I think that it's basically OEM?

I know it's not my money, but I must ask. Are you looking at something like this to replace the Forester as your daily driver? I noticed that SC says never seen snow. You do realize that driving something nice in MN winters means it won't stay nice for very long. Even with regular washes and a heated spot to stay in, this sh!t they put on the roads now is just straight cancer for cars.

    Just saying.

I think that applies to the part earlier where they said its going to be hard to resell. I've seen a few craigslist ads selling for cheap because they haven't been able to sell them before they go into the forces.

Fair enough. In that case, go tear it up. Just try not to "drift" it into a curb or ditch this winter.

If we ever get snow, that is...

Thanks, I'm super careful in the snow after some lifted truck crushed my front bumper last week. I'm not saying I won't launch the car, or even speed 24/7, but I don't want to do anything too stupid like drifting, or weaving in and out of traffic.

It is easier to keep your driving record clean, than it is to clear your dirty driving record young grasshopper!

Also cheaper to not pay tickets or ridiculous amounts for insurance rates for that matter.

That's true haha, of course I'm going to try and go the speed limit most of the time, but everyone wants to have fun on that road that is only you and a straight line once in a while :D. My insurance only went up $10 a month for this ticket.

I've decided against the SC300... It seems a bit too much for me, and I wouldn't want to drive it in the winter...

How does this one look? http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/dak/ctd/5377965134.html

Doesn't seem like it has too many miles, I haven't heard that many bad things about the '05, is this a good deal?

Thanks for the compliment on our pictures. We try to have pictures that best represent our vehicles. It's unfortunate that you were unable to see the flaws that you described. Not every car that we sell is flawless as they are used vehicles, but I do my best to describe each vehicle the best I can whether it be in text or reflected in price.
