Hell of a lot of rust, and lack of detail and grammar for an asking price like that. 9/10 would hoon.
Girlfriend is looking for a winter car and sent me this... https://minneapolis.craigslist.org/hnp/cto/d/2005-subaru-forester/6727709870.html Anyone know anything about this? Obviously not as nice of a deal as the one I got but doesn't look terrible..
A winter vehicle you say? https://minneapolis.craigslist.org/hnp/cto/d/2007-f350-dump-truck-salt/6707631341.html
I guess I should have said a car for this winter.. Her Buick had some issues this summer so we're covering our bases.. She only wants to spend ~3-5k, preferably cheaper. I tried to convince her to go for this but she said she preferred something that has awd, safe, and isn't a mobile drug front.
It should be noted, she could also plow, salt/sand and make extra money all winter... Put her to work.
I also found this: https://minneapolis.craigslist.org/hnp/cto/d/2005-subaru-outbackmiles/6719207362.html The guy is close to the girlfriends apartment so I thought we'd take a look tonight. He said the valve cover gasket is leaking (which ive replaced before) but there was oil in the spark plug gallery and it had a miss at one point. Im hoping its because the plug wire got soaked.. He said he bought it to sell it so it seems like he got it for cheap and wants it gone.. too good to be true?
"Half price" because valve cover gaskets "leak a little" seems a little weird. I'd say just give it a good look over and don't be afraid to pull the wire boots out while you're there.
https://minneapolis.craigslist.org/wsh/cto/d/collection-for-sale/6723973911.html Who wants a Sambar (or 6)?
He implied that he was going to fix the seals and sell it for 3-3500 but didn't have the tools to do all of it himself so he wanted it gone for 2500. It also sounds like its had some body work done. Either way, ive heard the plug seals going bad can cause the missing and it being kind of common on N/A blocks. Might have to grab a compression tester and give it a spin anyways. I keep telling myself that if anything goes on the block, ill just swap in the forester block (80k), since the transmission seems to be going bad on it. I have to remind myself almost daily, that this kind of thinking doesn't solve my "having enough running cars" problem.
Update on this for anyone who cares: https://minneapolis.craigslist.org/hnp/cto/d/2005-subaru-outbackmiles/6719207362.html '05 Outback (160k). Chassis - Front driver fender and driver door were repainted but not very well. The paint was recent but not brand new. I don't think the seller did the work but I've been wrong before. I did find a little surface rust on the bottom of the driver side door (front and back), and a little less on the driver (front only). Rust is only where the door skin wraps around the door frame at the bottom. Door jams/frames themselves are clean, a little orange tint by the plastic side skirt, probably from the door rust and not actual surface rust. Hatch doesn't have any rust, and closes nicely. A few dings around the car but looks good from 5 feet. Overall body 6.5/10? Underneath, I don't see much surface rust. Seller said the sway bars and (rear?) wheel bearing were recently done. Power train - Drives alright. No shakes in neutral coasting or on the brakes. Engine is missing (shuttering/hesitation) while on the throttle but feels like it has more torque than my 01 forester (80k). Steering feels tight, no whining at full lock. No strange noises that I heard on quick trip I took. Oil leaks are coming from the spark plug seals and filling the plug gallery. Outer valve covers seem fine and the leak isn't making it to the bottom of the heads... with that being said, the head gaskets are definitely bad. I wiped the oil away from the head/block gap and saw it start to pool up again. It looks like its just an external oil leak, though I didn't have my borescope to check the cylinder. Coolant is green so its still separated. I would guess the plug leak is the source of the misfire because of how wet it was on the outside. No matter what, this car needs HG's and seals. Honestly, I would buy it as a daily if I didn't NEED to find the GF a reliable car. I may do it anyways, especially if the STI sold... but timing is bad for me. Seller seems decent. Buys/sells from a body shop in maple plain.
His price seems a little steep for what all you're saying. If you do plan on dropping the Forester engine in there than maybe it's worth it, though I'd try to talk him down a little. HG kits are about $300 not to mention the time you have to put into it. That is if you're going to do it yourself. If not than depending on where you go, could be a $2k fix.
He asked me for an offer after I told him about the HG and I didn't have an answer for him. I did a set on an EJ251 before... it was about $300 not including the timing and other odds and ends. I don't have a problem doing it again but I still need a daily for the GF. I hate being a low-balling a-hole but I would have to scoop it up pretty cheap to make it work.
https://minneapolis.craigslist.org/hnp/ctd/d/2001-subaru-impreza-25rs/6731169785.html 2001 RS 2 door with 57k miles. Looks factory fresh. Its an automatic. Would be great for someone with deep pockets who wants a great project. Would be awesome to see this with full STI gear.
I want this badly enough that I'm actually mad at myself for wrapping up my toy money into a different build. Gimme!
Solid deal, but if I’m not mistaken this is Original Owner Autos who have a known bad reputation. @Navar Hren if you want one badly enough you can buy mine, and it’s a 5MT
No, unfortunately I am all tied up with an e23 745i build. Assuming it is in fact Original Owner Autos, run like hell. Those guys are f*cking horrid.
I’m starting to realize that 4 Subaru’s may be too many for me to manage. And since the RS is my side-Subaru, and not my main squeeze she may need to go.
lmk when that time comes! Looking for a smaller, year-round commuter to use when the 4runner is inconvenient/cumbersome. Fair warning... I might H6 swap it if/when the headgaskets blow.
I've talked to this guy a bit, he's selling this WRX needing a transmission. Seems like a reasonable price and I have a transmission and diff to drop in. With the motor out of my build right now I don't want to scoop this up, but if someone else does I can work a deal on the transmission. I just swapped the trans in my car, took about 5-6 hours by myself. Probably less if you've got help. https://rmn.craigslist.org/cto/d/2003-subaru-wrx/6721704901.html https://rmn.craigslist.org/pts/d/subaru-forester-xt/6713139923.html
He says the motor runs fine and its in decent shape. What does he say about the body/rust. Its got 200,000 on the odometer. Not worth much with that many miles unless it looks really good.
Nice but if I were an actual buyer I'd want a novel on this thing not just a few sentences. Tell me a story!
Much more reasonable, first thing I would do is get read of the yellow highlights: http://jdm-expo.com/vehicle-inventory/588-subaru-impreza-sti-sale.html
