I am surprised there is no mention of maintenance (clutch, timing belt, etc) or other facts about the car's history.

I didn't ever see that one. He looks like a UPS driver. How can it NOT be someone from this forum selling this thing?

I don't know but if it wasn't all the way down in Lakeville I would've bought it like 2 weeks ago when it was posted. Haha.

Got a hot tip from @silver03 this morning about a possible unicorn sighting. Sounded too good to be true so I had to investigate.

    https://minneapolis.craigslist.org/hnp/cto/d/minneapolis-2005-subaru-outback-25xt/7399572024.html

Price didn't seem horrible for what it is and the thing looked incredible in pictures. I even managed to talk my boss into letting me leave in the middle of the day to go look at it.

Guy was 45 minutes late to meeting up. Off to a great start. He had to run in and go to the bathroom right when he got there so I took it upon myself to check out as much as I could while I was alone.

Had a decent amount of hail damage, sunroof glass was cracked, spray on detailer all over the engine bay, CEL on as soon as I started the car and cruise light was flashing. Scanned that and it came up as an O2 sensor. Didn't clear it intentionally in hopes that the next guy would see it as well.

Interior was pretty much mint with the exception of a few wear spots, but nothing atypical for a 16 year old car.

On the test drive it seemed to run and drive "fine", minus the fact that it was the hardest shifting manual I've ever driven. Honestly reminded me of a 10 spd dump truck with no synchro's. No matter how hard I tried to rev match or take it easy I was forcing every single gear to go.

Guy has no maintenance history other than a few things he told me he replaced since getting it a month ago, allegedly. Although he struggled to tell me exactly what he had replaced. Haha.

He told us he got it a month ago for his wife but she doesn't really like the 5 spd. I was going by the Craigslist ad only but my wife found it on FB Marketplace as well as 3-4 other cars for sale from the same guy. Seemed like a used car salesman just flipping stuff. Even had us meet at some random a$s office building.

Long story short, definitely disappointed as my hopes were probably way too high and I was definitely disappointed by what it ended up being.

My main question is, has anybody ever experienced a really hard shifting car before? It's my first time in an Outback specifically but I've owned a handful of other Subaru's and driven manuals for 15+ years. Almost felt like I was doing something wrong... Haha.

There was one in Hopkins last year around this time. It sold during the time I was waiting to hear back from insurance on the Saabaru. Always wanted to drive one. I miss my NA 08 Outback.

No, thank god. It was a 2001 OBS, blurple with the dual wings (which I'd want) and a 5speed.

I feel like that story is either off or they skipped actually working with Turbo Tims. I've literally never heard a bad thing about them.

Same. Never personally been there but anecdotally everyone has good things to say.

Figured somewhere here may want it for shenanigans and I could leverage that to maybe buy those wheels/tires and some random parts for my FXT. It's all about the community amirite?

I'd consider it more if I didn't have two non-functional Subarus already at the house.

So, how much does a used engine for one of those go for these days? I really don’t want a project, but I’ve always wanted a FXT…

If it wasn't an automatic I think I'd already be on my way to get it. That's a pretty sweet deal.

One of them is the GC8, so none of this is new information for me at this point. The OBS just refusing to start has pissed me off enough where I bought a number of parts to throw at it to prevent future issues. Lucky for me, Rock Auto had incorrect information and sent the wrong parts. Since they didn't have the correct parts, they just straight up removed them from their website and I had to buy them elsewhere.

Its been too cold and I haven't had enough motivation to fix that ****box since. Acura TL is warmer and comfier anyway I guess.
