It's getting to be about that time! I think the water temps are still a bit low but if next week is decently warm I might take some of my 3 day weekend to scope out the panfish bite. anyone got any big trips planned? My work is shutting down for 2 weeks and forcing us to use our vacation (hurray, that means unpaid days off for my rally events ). I may just have to make a Lake of the Woods trip over one of those weeks to make it worth my while
sounds good to me mark! I'll bring the beverages :cheers2: - maybe dan can come - if you let him drive I bet he could hit a buoy  I need to clean out the garage so I can fit the boat back in - seems like subaru parts exploded all over the place
If I wasn't taking two summer classes, I'd be going up to Voyagers in June to fish either Kabetogama or Namakan.
hit me up matt, I'll join you in the canoe (I really in many ways prefer fishing out of the canoe over the Lund)
Waiting for all the ice to be off to get back into the fly-fishing for panfish. Have to practice my casting a bit before moving to Montana for a summer of trout fishing Yellowstone...
if anyone has a boat and would be willing to let me tag along i could bring beer...my boat got murdered last year...stupid storms!
If you dont want those parts I will gladly take them off your hands. The ice is about 2 feet out past the end of our dock on Minnetonka. Given the forecast of rain on Sunday, I think I am going to try casting for some Crappies on Monday after work. I might try and go up to Millacs sometime this summer, possibly try some Muskie fishing.
anyone ever been to the minnesota muskie expo? it's going on this weekend - i've never been and was wondering if there are typically a lot of vendors selling stuff? I need to re-line a few reels and maybe switch some 6.5' rods to 7+
I've already been out on the soft water. We fished a tournament last weekend on the Mississippi. The bite was SLOW.. But, it makes me happy that this thread already exists! My boat is down in Elko right now getting fine tuned. I'm very much looking forward to a perfectly running boat this year. There is nothing worse than the feeling of being out in a not so reliable boat.
i got stuck in the middle of mille lacs last year while it was storming. no motor lol.. ya i was about 10 miles to nearest shore lol
depends in what i'm feeling like that day...sometimes just cast for bass, northerns, troll for whatever bites...or if i'm really lazy grab a bobber and a 6-pack
went out this afternoon for about 30 min to see what was going on - caught a couple small sunfish under a bridge on a small jig. I think Sunday I'll get the boat or canoe out
maybe we can get you and the family down to our cabin on Lake Tetonka (Waterville).. I have a fishing rod.. my sons superman one.. ha ha I aint a huge fisher, I dont like to eat fish much..... but my son wants too, and we only went once for like 20mins when we bought him his rod last year... as we have no real tackle... (well I so.. ask the wifey) being that we will have a brand new 25' Performance Triple Pontoon with a 200hp ecotec motor... the unreliable part shouldnt be an issue... just the sitting still part sucks ha ha
Carl and Mark, we need to get out fishing for sure. I haven't been out for much besides catfish on the Mississippi for quite a while. I sold my house boat last year so now I use my Dad's 14 footer. If you guys want to haul in a mess of catfish we can head out to a few spots I know of. Any time you need a fishing partner give me a shout.
I am going to be hitting up the Rainy River/Lake of the woods for the fall run. Should be a really good time.
09 Fishing thread We've been out a couple of times already. On Wednesday night we ended up finding the Crappies and tied for first place. We had our 20 Crappie after fishing for about 45 minutes. We were throwing colored and non-colored bare hooks with a mouth hooked crappie minnow. The wind was blowing from the south east, so we hit the north west side of a bay where all of the warm water had blown across the otp of the water and found them in about 1.5' - 2' of water - casting slip bobbers toward shore. It was a sandy beach, so I would bet they were jsut about to spawn. They were still staging in deeper (colder) parts of the lake. We didn't have much luck on the river. They opened the dam for pool 4 three or four days before we fished it so the water temp plumited like 10 degrees, so the bite was tough. so I decided to scare the little guy Last but not least, here are the 2009 PFD team shirts:
Going up near the border this weekend. Hopefully when I am back, I'll have lots of Sturgeon pics to share
A couple of my buddies were up ther this past week and the Walleye weren't biting so they went Sturegon on day 2. They hammered them! Good luck!!
combine these threads! http://mnsubaru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31883 I'm really just waiting for muskie season to open but I'll be going out this weekend if I have time
I will have my boat up on Vermillion this summer with another i am able to use on Winni for the walleye's and muskies. Hitting the rainbow/splake fishing up in the Tofte Ranger District (midway between Ely and the north shore on Hwy 2). Should be an eventful summer of fishing.
I'm too slow to get out fishing yet. I probably should, my goal this year is to at least catch one muskie... if anyone wants to help... I'll totally supply beer and snacks
alright kelly, you're in the boat with me also, just made my lake of the wood reservation. northwest angle is always ftw
Rich was still snowmobiling on Pelican Lake yesterday Ice is finally starting to barely break away from the shores. We are going to go sturgeon fishing next week though! Otherwise we fish our lake, Littlefork River, our secret trout fishing lake alot and try to make it to Lake Superior a few times each summer.
hit the lake looking for crappies - didn't find any but I did nail this largemouth that was pushing 4lbs on the beatle spin lol. promptly returned to the lake (caught another small bass but no crappies - then again the lake I was on has a weak crappie population)
Sturgeon fishing success. Man Canada was cold, but it sure was a lot of fun. Biggest fish i've ever caught/held. and this one was taken moments after yakked from too much beer, no sleep, and straight junk food. hah, rookie mistake.
nice bass carl. im bringin my boat to prior or crystal saunday hopefully here is a gem my gf caught the end of last year on prior. she was to scared to hold it tho... lol it was huge. looks kinda small in pic
ha ha ha. I didn't catch the big one, another dude in our leage cauht it last night durring our tournament on Tonka. We were talking a bit and he didn't feel like cleaning fish so I said I would take it if he didn't want it. I realize today why I don't drink the "High Life"... :eek3: This is the dude that actually caught it.
Who's going out for opener / when / where? We plan on getting the boat ready to hit the water on Friday night after work. My buddy's co-workers will be on Mille Lacs at midnight and are going to call us if they are on the fish. If we get a call, we leave then. If not, we sleep until morning and leave then. Fish Saturday all day, stay at the casino hotel on Saturday and fish all day Sunday.
