Spent the weekend up on lake of the woods, got completely hosed.. 2 walleye 1 keeper and 1 throwback and 1 northern off our dock.. Very disappointing for my first Lake of the Woods trip.. we went out with a guide the first day
That sucks. Bad guides can be a bad time, that happened to us last year. 1 full day with a guide and did not limit. The next day we limited out in less than 3 hours.
My brother and dad have had nothing but good luck with them before. They went with the same guide 2 years ago and hit their limit 45 minutes in.. I'm not a huge fisher, but nobody was hitting their limit all day
Did you down rig, jig or both? When my family goes each year we usually have 2 - 3 boats (big family - only uncles and cousins). The guides up there make a huge difference on the experience you have. We usually guide 1 - 2 days and/or take out the fishing boats we bring up.
I've only hired a guide to take us out on Lake Michigan for Salmon. THAT was fun!!! But, I suppose guides have bad days too - sometimes the bite is just off. should I make my pic of a dark gray 09 hatch so we're all matching?
Matching = Winning. I have to admit I was not about a "guide" when we were first going to Lake of the Woods. However, I had a blast. We got wasted and fished and I didn't see the sun set. Don't get me wrong... I would love to drop in a boat and fish the islands up by Canada on my own time... but guides are fun too. I made a crap load of money betting on down riggers!
DGM ish da besht! No drinking for me while I was there, because my brother recently got sober.. So I had to support that haha
havent posted here much, too much fishing and no photos. lol. anyway i've found alot of time recently and decide i should put i to use. Here is a 20.5in 7LB! bass im working on. its only a replica, but still very nice nonetheless! if anyone is ever interested in having my paint one for them, i'd be willing to do it for a great price!
I finally got the new boat wet over the weekend. Worked great, the family had a blast cruising around, and I pulled in a few largemouth, all 16".
We took 2nd out of 17 last night on Waconia. It was a pick six tournament and we pulled 5 Bass and a 22" Eye for a total of 17.5 lbs. That solidified finishing the year in 3rd overall out of 19 teams. Hell yeah!
headed to Mille Lacs this weekend for a day... And to my honey hole to see they have turned back on!!!
2 weekends will be the first time back at the cabin since July. I hope to make it out fishing for a few hours.... we'll see what happens.
We're in an all-day tourney on Saturday on Tonka. 5a-3p. It's a winner take all - we're fishing Muskies all day. WOOT!
will b heading up to Burntside lake No. of Ely end of Jan. anyone have experience fishing that lake? heard it's a good lake with everything, mainly going for walleyes and lake trouts, need some depts, good spots, etc....thanks
not that I expect any of you guys would drink and drive, just know this: http://kstp.com/news/stories/s3026998.shtml be careful out there.
our lake will still be frozen so no fishing,Vermillion should be open tomorrow or the next day if lucky.
Watch the ice go out via web cam on Long Lake in Park Rapids MN. http://www.parkrapidsdowntown.com/contents/webcams/webcam3.php
We picked up two 23's opening morning which was a GREAT way to start the day. The sun came up and that was the last we saw of the 'eyes for the weekend. We picked up three limits of decent Crappie though.
I am terrible as well. Let me know if you want to go sometime. From what I have found, seems like the best stream/ river trout fly fishing in the state is near Rochester, but I'm up for where ever. I'd like to avoid the WI side, since I just spent $38 on my MN license ($10 trout stamp).
