Finally got out there a few times... Don't take many pictures, but did since this was the first trout of the year for me. I have also been out for carp with the fly rod a few times (Don't knock it until you try it, they are a lot of fun).

A Northern caught me up in Park Rapids last week which was fun.
"The book" says to push it through, which we tried in the boat but I just about passed out. Went to the clinic, got it numbed up and the doc tried to push it through but couldn't, so he pressed down and backed it out.

Did a little trolling up north this weekend and caught a baby northern. Still felt great catching my first fish of the year. Switching from a lake to a river is a big change. Tougher to find where they're hiding.

That is very true, but people often forget some of the monsters that lay low in the rivers. We fish the mississippi in the cities, and usually have a good time. Not going to make it out fishing this weekend :(

hope to get out sometime next week after work.

I recently bought myself an old boat(like 1957 old) 14 ft aluminum nothing fancy. Please be prepared to give me a little advice on how and where to use this thing. I haven't been fishing in probably 15 years or more so any hint, ideas, pointers etc would be appreciated.

but first things first. Does anyone here have some experience with non-running outboards? the boats has a 6hp that runs great but the guy I bought it from also gave me an extra mercury 110 9.8hp motor that I guess doesn't run. I don't know where to start as far as getting it going, ther cover is off and the pull start thing is jacked up and he said it seemed like a timing issue was the trouble it had last time he messed with it. Lemme know what ya think or who to maybe bring it to.

My motor is old as well and the only guy that I could find to work on it is down in Elko. He did a great job.
let me know if you want his contact info.

I'll try to grab a pic later today.

Thanks Ted, I'll let ya know. I'm gonna have a crack at it when I get a chance. I talked to the guy I bought it from and he told me he actually thinks its some wiring stuff under the flywheel but he could'nt get it off. I'll track down a puller or something and take a peak under there before going any further. Got the hitch for the forester sitting in the garage now just gotta get in installed and I can hit the lakes.

Anybody have any suggestions for lakes in the north metro(I'm in Blaine) I'm not fishing for anything in particular just looking to hopefully catch something kill some time.

What is everyone running for boats? The reason I ask is that I am currently shopping around and looking for any advice I can get. I currently have my eyes on a new Skeeter WX1850 for a fiberglass walleye boat. Anyone have any experience with them?

If you are thinking about going figerglass I would seriously look at Ranger. Depending on what you are looking to spend. I have had two Rangers and have loved both of them.

I have looked at Ranger quite a bit...I just can't justify 45k plus for a loaded walleye boat :(.

I caught this guy last weekend along with a bunch of others. I've caught some pretty sizable bass before but this is the biggest fish i have ever caught in my life, which isnt too bad considering i really only fish bass. of course, this is also the ONE day i forgot to bring my stringer along, Im usually all about catch and release bass fishing but this one would have gone well on my wall..
sorry this is the only pic i have... Largemouth, 20" long, 17.5" around, and the mouth diameter was about 5.5"wide. i had no scale but this thing honestly weighed AT LEAST 7 pounds. Man i love Bassin' :)

    I agree!

Putting motor repair on the back burner for a little bit since I do have 1 running motor. I left work early today and picked up my mother so we could spend a few hours on the lake, fishing sucked but it beat being at work and I think mom enjoyed it too.

20 inch bass this time of year would be around 5-6 lbs. Nice fish.

This was a 20" Bass that I caught on Wednesday night
. 4lbs 7oz. That's a fatty and a GREAT fish, but I would guess a bit over 5.5lbs. We had a decent league night on Waconia. Ended up taking 2nd and got the $ for biggest fish. With 5 fish, just shy of 12lbs. The wind and the storms on Tuesday night slowed them down considerably.

Nice tourny limit. I had a night out on South Center in a tourny that we weighed in 15.2 lbs for 5 bass. I'd take 12lbs any day of the week. Nice job!

Thanks guys. Considering we did zero Bass fishing when we started the league 5 years ago, it's a big improvement. Green and White Senkos in the reeds in 2' of water.

Derek, the next step in the boat rebuild is to get the vinyl for the floor and casting platform. Wrap and install that, then in go the steering, seats, platform and get it on the water. After it's functional again, then comes the new storage, live well, rod locker, etc.

When I get the vinyl for the floor I'll give you a call. It may be a lot easier with two guys.

The largest of 3 I caught on the crow river in rockford. 20 inches, just about 3 lbs. My first time using chicken livers, they work amazingly.

Same spot, 5 lbs, felt like a dead log for about 3 seconds, then it got pissed. One before it was 4 lbs, and missing half its whiskers!.

^^^Sweet. Took my wife out in the boat for the first time today. No fish worth talking about but caught a nasty sunburn on my back and had a little adventure getting back and waiting at the landing in pouring rain.
