Hey everyone. Just recently I have noticed that the oil light sometimes comes on when I come to a stop but only stays lit for about 2 seconds. The weird thing is that it doesn't happen every time. For those who don't know my car it is a 2002 Impreza 2.5RS Auto. I am going to be changing my oil and stuff this week to see if that makes a difference. Meanwhile, any thoughts would be appreciated :)

I would change your oil immediately to rule that out. Or check your dipstick. Does the light come on during hard stops? There are a number of things I'd check on this one. First and foremost would be your oil level.

That was happening to me a while back only when I accelerated from a dead stop. My oil cap was not tightened. I have no idea how that was the problem but it seemed to work for me. Maybe give that a shot?

The oil cap being loose would lower pressure in the system, I'd imagine.

Check your freaking oil! Its from your system being LOW, its sloshing around enough to suck air, I really dont understand why its SO HARD for people to check thier oil when they fill up with gas. FFS! For it to be low enough to get an oil light, means you probably already have done major harm to your engine.

Well, to be fair, my oil light was flickering on and off, but it was usually after a car wash. I checked the oil level and it was fine. He hasn't said if he checked his oil level yet or not.

my car did this when it had pleny of oil in it (light came on at low rpm), the sensor was going bad. Look at the sensor, see if there is any oil around it or on it

I have checked my oil when I fill up with gas at least once a week. It is NOT low. Hovers just below the full mark. Checked the oil sensor connector and it was corroded as all get up. Cleaned it up and the problem has gone away. Thanks for the help and AWDimprezaL, calm down bro :) Just looking for some knowledge from people that know more about these Subarus than me.

I'm trying to save you an engine, glad it was something simple. Unlike the guy who thought he had the cracked pickup tube "problem" but really he had 1 qt of oil in the car and was 3K overdue for an oil change.
