So... i currently have the 12mm? oil pump from an 08 sti. for my 2.5l hybrid build, as some may know the motor only lasted 160 miles before knocking . and i think it was due to lack of oil preasure... i have read on nasioc about some people having troubles with the 12mm pumps... just wondering if anyone locally is or has run a 12mm pump? and if you have had any problems? also wondering if i should go with a different pump? a 10 or 11mm? any help would be greatly appreciated! thanks
Disassemble the pressure relief valve and make sure it moves up and down the bore freely. The plunger can get hung up on the edge of the port causing it to hang open resulting in the oil being dumped back into the pan rather then going through the engine. There is a post by wagonsrock that shows this very well. The pressure relief valve is the port and plunger visible just to the right of the cast number 10 one the pump.
He's right. Make sure your plunger moves freely. I have my suspicions about your block failure Flatline, but I'll keep them to myself. PS, There is WAY too much RTV on that pump pictured. The o-ring should have nearly any touching it. That o-ring will (did?) push out causing an external oil leak.
And also to add to this note, a 12mm pump has a higher volume of flow than an 11mm pump, but not necessarily more pressure (unless the pump is shimmed that way). Your pump should be fine, unless the vanes are wrecked or the pressure relief valve sticks.
Can you elaborate on this please? weather here or in a PM i would like to know what you think please. on the other hand... i have never seen the insdie of an oil pump... not sure i want to take it apart myself... seems to scare me a bit.
hey... you are close to me in coon rapids, would you be willing to help me? edit, this is flatline...
