I saw the Ziptie rally car, bummer... It didn't look too bad, but I only saw it as it was pulled out out of a blind drop off in the pitch dark, but it still resembled a car.

No damage, not even cosmetic. We basically got stuck in a spot that required a somewhat complicated extraction. 3 cars went off in this corner before us. I guess it's one of the harder corners of the rally. We were going maybe 5mph when it happened and were 50ft from the finish of ss3. Pretty much the lamest dnf ever.

I think we took that corner at 10 mph in loaded down unpreped wagons with lifts in the pitch dark without stage notes... after we were waiting for you guys to be pulled out, but what ever....:laugh::laugh::laugh:

Today is anouther day, and it may bring you better luck in the woods!

To be fair, that is a very deceptive corner, and a small miscalculation could land you in a nightmareish:eek3: position, you guys will do fine, and I look forward to seeing you finish the remaining stages

Hope you can shake it off, and press on.

Where do you find the standings. I wish I would have gotten my car back so I could be there instead of looking for standings online haha

Nah... I got up there too late to work on Friday and had to leave around 7:30 on Saturday to get home. We knew the marshal points and I've been working so many times I just got there and told them we know where to stand and they let us hang out for a while :). The greatest part is that those vids are from my iphone :) I love this thing... uh oh... Taras warning! :ugh:

    Here are my photos:
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/figzphoto/

I was assigned to tag along with Bob(Robert) from mysubie.com since it was first Rally race assignment. I didn't get a chance to shoot every car since we were in quite the hurry to get to as many stages as we could. I'm glad I had a liaison to show me what's involved. I would have been completely lost and would have only made it to a couple stages. I was very impressed and I'm hoping to make it to future events.

That being said. I got a couple decent shots. I'd rank this in difficulty (from a photographer's standpoint) as similar to off-road racing (WSORR, SCORE, TORC, etc.) except you have few attempts to get "the shot". I'll definitely have to rethink some things and really study the staging maps next time. Fun stuff!

Almost home. We hit a large rock on ss14 and had to make on the fly repairs prior to ss15. I couldn't drive the car above 40mph on stage after that. Transit back to bemidji sucked and we barely beat out mpl to finish. We were very, very slow this weekend after rolling at nt3 and then going off on ss3 day 1. My confidence was way down and this was our first time on notes. Everytime we finally got a good pace going and dave and I were synching up something would happen - either coming across triangles (several rolled cars and a few other mechanical breakdowns) or hitting something like on ss14. Never really got to drive more than 70% of flat out. Fixing the car on the fly was a good experience and I was very happy dave and I did not dnf day 2. The service crew was great - big thanks to dan, dan, chux, sheen, sara, and kelly. Sorry for the scare on ss3 when they said it was a red cross, not sure where that came from.

We came into that corner pretty hot...I don't know the speed, but I'd guess we came into the caution at 35-40mph maybe? I commend Carl for actually making the tough part of the corner. Evidentially that corner has a name because countless people fly straight off it.

This weekend was the best learning experience I've ever had in racing. Trying to throw a car down complicated stages mile after mile is incredibly tough and I commend all the top racers for having the balls and skills to do so.

Sorry for all those that didn't finish due to crashes or mechanical issues. I think the weekend started with 38 or so...and it ended with 24? This sport is hardcore.

Carl and I had our ups and downs throughout the weekend, but considering this was our first national event I'm very happy with our results. Car is in good shape, minus a few small mechanical issues, Carl is starting to really drive like he belongs behind the wheel of a rally car, and I actually read stage notes for the first time in competition and didn't kill us!

    Great ***** times!!!

We've walked away with so many vaulable lessons I cannot keep track of them all in my head.

Huge thanks to Carl, our crew, and everyone else that supports this crazy sport

    Congrats!

I forgot to say one important thing....

Carl and I have been honored with competing with a young guy from Michigan, Mason Moyle. He started this year the same time as us and we've had a great time racing against him. This weekend was his first national event as well and he did a great job..incredible job actually. He finished every stage and IIRC he took the Open Light win on Saturday...huge congrats to Mason, his family, and Scott Puttnum for their excellent results and all the great things they bring to the sport of rallying up here in the midwest.

    Thanks!

Huge "Thanks" to everyone that came out to help banner and de-banner. You guys made my life a lot easier by taking an extra day off of work to come up on to put them up on Thursday and then sticking around through Sunday to take it all down.

I'm pretty sure we hang more banner than any other rally, mostly due to all the stinking atv trails. But we get some awesome stage roads because of it. Your help is greatly appreciated!

They're not stinky.. I'm an avid ATV rider myself :( . It was a really kick-ass weekend! Can't wait to do it again! Even bannering and de-bannering was fun. Got to drive the stage, albeit at maybe half the speed, but still a blast! Trunk is still full of banner tape, and I'm saving it for an upcoming project. :hsugh:

The ATV'rs aren't stinky, all the trails we have to banner are! There is like eleventybillion of them to banner and de-banner and it takes a ton of time. I'm sure they are a ton of fun to ride.

    Glad you had fun :)
