Hey guys, I'm from up north in Manitoba. I've driven down a few times and dealt with a shop in Fargo (Tintmasters). I'm going to be coming down again next spring to pick a few things up and was wondering if anyone in the area has the capability to tune an 06 2.5i? I saw a thread on NASIOC that got me interested in this, any of the N/A guys on NASIOC have probably seen it. Thanks -Kevin
There's not really much you can do with a N/A car. Add a little timing and lean out the AFR a tad, but you're not going to see much in the way of power gains.
Going to have to agree with them, unless you're tuning it yourself, it doesn't make any sort of financial sense to tune one of our cars. An extra lawn mower to the wheels isn't worth $texas, compared to tires, suspension, wheels, etc. Particularly in your case, given its another 3-4hrs to minneapolis, then add fuel and all that.
RichWRX: Thanks, I'll try contact them. Articwolf: I'll be in MN anyways so I figured I may as well give it a try. As for suspension parts I've already got coilovers, F/R sways with all the mounts endlinks etc. on the way. Also have my rims/tires on order from Japan right now going to a shop in Fargo (which is why I'll be down in MN in the first place). tux121:I'm still fairly interested in getting this done, and I understand I need boost, but now's not the time Bullwinkle: I know I won't see huge power gains, but any power gains at this point is worthwhile I guess. Someone on Nasioc made 155 WHP with the same car/mods as me and I wouldn't mind that. Thanks everyone for taking the time to answer though.
I know there is a guy on NASIOC that was posting regularly in the tuning section about tuning his 2.5i. IIRC, his SN was "willaty," you could trying PM'ing him to see if he would be willing to share his map with you, or offer any advice.
deviantek is the guy I was referring to who had his 2.5i pro-tuned. I believe he was the first to post and share his map.. Unfortunately the tuner he was working with passed away in a car accident so the whole project came to a halt for him. Since then I've become interested in having my car tuned, but have yet to find a person to do it for me. I always see willaty posting and I've pmed him a few times. I'd honestly do this myself if I knew how, but obviously I don't Also, as far as I know it's unsafe to just use someone elses map even if your cars are modded the same as there could be differences between stock ROMs?..
Well, all of the MY ECU's are different, so if you get a map from someone, you'll need to ensure it is for your MY and model car, and if it is not, you'll need to copy the tables over into your stock ROM. However, as I mentioned before, there's not much you can change on a N/A car, and as long as you are running similar gas and have similar mods to the car as the map was designed from, you should be OK. Obviously, with this route, you'd need to be able to log and flash your car yourself.
What kind of improvements can be made out of the 2.5i? When I had my 99 rs, I was dying for someone to have the capabilities to tune it. All that was available that that time was the i-speed flash (which would've been a huge hassle).
At this time the improvements are minimal in terms of the tuning capability. This is widely due to the AVLS system that Rom-raiders hasn't figured out yet. The car I was talking about earlier had the following mods: Genuine Borla UEL Headers Highflow Cat 2.5" 1 piece magnaflow exhaust w/ resonator LW Crank Pulley Injen Cold Air Intake and made 155 WHP on 87 octane...
