What I want to know is what prompted this? Someone had to suggest it, which means that the threat is possibly real. Did some dumb ass 12 year old actually eat worn out rod bearings right out of the crankcase? Or drink used motor oil? Seriously, I want to meet this kid and slap their face if they exist. Someone, somewhere has done this, and instead of making laws that restrict kids that aren't functionally retarded, they should just make a law that any 12 year old kid caught eating metal engine parts or drinking motor oil gets banned from ever procreating, has their DNA put in some kind of checking system so that if any children are born with their DNA in them, they are immediately flown to some sort of padded prison colony where they cannot hurt or harm others with their genetic predisposition to stupidity. Yeah, it sounds like facism, or some kind of master race thing, but in reality it is protecting the 99.99% of the populous that isn't so brutally ****ing retarded that they don't know not to drink used motor oil and eat metal engine parts.
My dad just called me, told me Cities Edge is still selling the 110's BUT is has to sell them with a tag that says it did not comply with the lead safety ratings yet. Also from Cities Edge it sounds as though Kawasaki has done the research to allow there bikes to be sold. There is also no word on KTM taking bikes off the shelves being as Europe has higher standards and all I would expect KTM to not be affected at this point. I have now been heard its the valve stems, slides in the carburetor and some of the aluminum side covers that pose this possible risk. When is the last time a 8 y/o took apart a carb and stuck the slide in their mouth?? Furthermore - Tom 6pm Buffalo Wild Wings Plymouth ... be there! I asked if you would ever come to a B-Dub meet last week and I was told you have no hair ... just what I was told ???
This legislation wasn't directly aimed at the motorsports industry, but rather at kid's toys that were made from Chinese crap. However, they way it was written basically had a bunch of side affects. However, I totally agree with your excellent rant, lol.
I think that the answer you get regarding availibility will depend on who you talk to. I've have seen numerous reports of dealers (KTM included) who have pulled their inventory.
http://ktmtalk.com/index.php?showtopic=327138&view=findpost&p=2733830 Memorandum to KTM Dealers TO: KTM Dealers FROM: KTM Government Compliance Team DATE: February 10, 2009 RE: Consumer Product Safety Act of 2008 (CPSIA) • The Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (CPSIA) passed by Congress establishes new standards for lead content in children’s products. • KTM is currently testing products in order to prove compliance with the requirements of the CPSIA certification. • As of today, KTM will stop shipment on designated “youth” items that are intended for children 12 years and younger until compliance is confirmed on all youth products. • KTM will assist KTM Dealers during the testing and certification process by offering free financing for 50cc, 65cc and to 85cc motorcycles that KTM dealers have in their inventory through the end of the month. The financing charges will be paid by KTM to GE through the end of February and will be credited on your February bill. • Testing facilities are overwhelmed due to the large volume of products that need testing by all OEM’s, KTM is hopeful that all testing and certification will be complete in the near future.
http://www.amadirectlink.com/news/story.asp?id=839 Good news, the CSPC isn't going to enforce the law for now (through May 2011). Thank you to those who took the time to write those in Congress.
"Lead paint doesn't make dumb kids. Dumb kids eat lead paint." But where do dumb kids come from? Maybe Readymix's proposals are not far reaching enough.
