Well I have a cf hood that's a no name and I got it for stupid cheep. I was thinking about painting part of it. I was going to paint from the body lines that run from the top of the hood to the bottom of the inside of the headlights. Paint it the color of my car from the body line out to the fender. So the in side of the hood you would still se the cf. I don't really care if it doesn't look good cuz I can always take it off and put my oem one back on and then sand it back down. I just wanted to know how people would think it would look. Here are so pic's of how it looks now. Let me know guys! Thanks!

    Proper prep prevents poor paint.

I say paint the whole thing. The Japanese laugh at us about our fetish for bare carbon.

And the Japanese are right to do so. Naked carbon fiber looks like crap on anything but exotic cars.

The OEM aluminium hood is probably lighter anyway. Put that back on and sell this one.

Actually I beleive that the OEM is quite a bit lighter, ditch the carbon, or paint it all either way unless it's real carbon fiber its a poser thing.

If the oem one is lighter it's no more then pound. I'm about 99.9% sure that the cf one is the same wight as the oem one. I got the hood cuz it was a steal. I'm not a fan of cf hoods myself. I think they kind of scream ricer. (like hondas) But I thought what the hell why not pick it up. It needed to be recleared witch I did and I thought I would maybe paint it for something different. Not sure if I'll paint it this week or not but I'm thinking I will do it for sure.

If you don't actually like carbon, why not just re-clear it and sell it for profit?

I don't know. I like being able to switch it up now and then I guess. CF to oem. I prolly will just end up selling it but I'll play around with it for now.

My CF hood felt like it definitely weighed less than the stock hood by at least a little bit.

There are a few that weigh less than the stock aluminium hood. Most don't. Especially the cheap ones.

Weigh both. I'd be very curious to see the results.

Also, that's not what you originally said.

I can see why you edited that, tho. A bit too fancy in the pants? Hmmm? Maybe better for t3hw00t.

If someone weighs theirs I will try to weigh my CF one. It is a VIS so it is higher quality.

Well, if I were to be pedantic about it, which I usually am, I'd say that a proper test would be with the same scale...

I suppose that would be the proper way to do it. I picked it up because I got such a good deal on my Morettes and CF trunk at the same time (there is a huge difference between a stock spiler trunk and a CF one, no argument there), and I am in the minority in this thread I guess who likes the look of carbon fiber, especially on WRB and black cars. When we swapped hoods, it felt like the CF hood was somewhere around 5 lbs - 10lbs lighter than the stock hood. Negligable, but still lighter.

If your gonna use a cheap CF or fiberglass hood like that you should get Hood pins because I've seen those things just fly up and break the window and damage the car. Top Secret makes some hood pins that are pretty unnoticeable because they are flush with the hood.
