Hey MNSubaru, my name is henry and im new to subies so go easy on me.

So I have have purchased a 2.2 swaped rs with a 3" turbo back exhaust and will be picking it up next month. Needless to say it is LOUD. After doing some research I have concluded that I will want to run either a stock or aftermarket 2002 + wrx/sti catback.

I know I will have to extend the catback to mid pipe with some sort of extension + rotation of the flange, but I also read somewhere that the hangers need to be re positioned because it hits the sway bars and it rattles?

I was also thinking about using a STI catback, but then i would be going from 3" to 2.5". How much power would I be losing and would it mess up the tune. (I will be driving 2k miles back home after picking up the car)

Which 2.2 swap is it? NA or legacy turbo? Stock Sti exhaust isn't bad of choice.

From my understanding when you are already swapped then the stock wrx/Sti exhaust should just bolt on without any modifications to the midpipe except the one hanger by the axleback. Do you happen to have any pictures of your new car? It would help. Thanks.

Decided to just go a custom route. Went to Tim's Custom Exaust in Anoka. Great work! They let me try on 3 different mufflers they had before the welded it. They just took off my catback and welded me up a new one. Its still a bit to loud for my taste, even though I am using the quietest muffler they had. I dont think much more can be done with out downsizing to 2.5" or adding a cat. I am running no cats atm

do you have resonators in the exhaust? if anything i'd add even a second resonator before I added a cat.

Knowing Tim he would always recommend a resonator.

Sorry to thread jack! Question though. Did you get it done on your legacy? What was the cost? Thanks!

Yeah wasn't bad considering most online were going for 7-$800+, other than the ebay one for like $400 but it may be bad quality.

Though I will say its not "shiny" like the other ones but Idc

Eh oh well no one will be under it looking to see if its shiny! How is the sound? Is it worth going there for the price as well as sound/flow?

Yeah I know, idc to but yeah it think it was worth it.

I had them do the 3inch pipe back - 2.25 to the mufflers. Catless, nothing but piping under there
Sounded great and sounded mean when they told me to go fire it up after they were done, I was like this all day :bounce: and still like that not. I open the windows once in a while just to listen to it still.

It sounds a bit different from those sti and wrx, a bit less quiet yet doesn't attract attention to much but still has that mean subaru sound to it. Hard to explain

The guys up at tims said the same thing, they loved it and even recorded a video of me driving away. They may do and say this to every customer, idk. I love it

Yeah well worth the money. Great job and great people. I love the sound of it.. just the volume inside is to harsh. The fact that my car is also a wagon is another reason why its louder then it should be.

Be sure to tell them you heard about it from the subaru with all the grand canyon dust on it. :)

This sounds like a good shop, and close to my house. I'll have to check them out...my truck needs a new cat welded in.

get a magnaflow muffler... not a fart can style...

I always built my exhausts with a 3inx20in resonator and a magnaflow muffler.... NEVER got looked at by cops... and sounded nice when you got on them
