35%...and it's actually very light too. with all the windows up you can still clearly see through the entire car. Yeah, he seen me today and pulled onto the median and waited for me to catch up to him. I knew as soon as I seen him that I would get pulled over.

    Oh well, 50% it is....

...and the worst part about it. He keeps pulling me over in a black dodge durango with blacked out window tint......talk about stupid:ugh:

nope- MN is 50% on all windows in a passenger car.

I JUST got off the phone with Hennipen county courts. I have an appointment with a hearing officer. I don't have to pay a dime for these violations...according to the clerk. She was very nice and was a bit miffed that the same cop is issuing the tickets.

I had 50 on my old car, and it barely did anything. What some of my friends have done (if they get fix it tickets) is go to a tint shop and ask for some scraps...then bring those to the courthouse to show that you took it off.

The only issue I see in this (besides being dishonest) is that I don't know if cops can look up on their laptop whether or not you've been issued a fix-it ticket or not. If they can do that, and you lied about having it taken off...they will probably just give you a regular ticket the next time...

Police vehicles can have whatever tint they want, especially if it's an unmarked vehicle. Don't want people seeing the strobes, cage, etc as easily.

EP cops in general will look for any reason to pull you over and generally make your day a pain in the ass (especially true if you are in an import).

you can argue that statement all you wish, but i have lived in this hell hole for long enough to know its 100% true, ****, i know a good portion of their staff and some of them will openly admit to it.

I lived in EP for some time as well, they will pull over an import over anything else all day long. True statement. It's stereotyping and harassment at it's finest.

and they will get away with it all day long because the entire department is one of the most over payed in the damn country, and they will do anything and everything in their power to keep their name and their officer's names clean and clear. I DARE you to attempt to file a report against an officer, i know of atleast 5 people who have tried, with legit reasons and they refused to even give them the submission form.

You're lucky you got off with a warning, troopers NEVER go lenient.
I was pulled over three times when I got my license (over the coarse of a year) each time for speeding and got off with a warning the first two times - the third time I was pulled over by a tropper and he made me sit in the back of his car while he wrote my ticket. That scared the poop out of me and to this day, I'm not sure why I had to do that..unless he was just trying to scare me, then mission accomplished.

Since we keep posting in it, can someone PLEASE fix the title of this thread so that the word "trooper" is spelled correctly? It's been driving me nuts since the thread was started

My roommate got a ticket for his tint and he had all his windows down. The officer must have remembered him from another time or something. He followed him to his work and was like "I know where you work now, get this tint removed" How annoying.

Seriously. Don't you have better things to do than hassle punk kids in the suburbs?

I removed my 30% tint some time ago and replaced it with 50%. The trooper on hwy 63 still pulls me over and my tint is still illegal (measures 43-46% depending on which window). Stupid tint lawz and anal troopers.

This is what a good voice recorder is for, If they don't give it to you and will not file it and give you a case number you push for a investigation into the precinct. Happened in one of the Minneapolis precincts last year or the year before.

The voice recorder also does wonders if you are stopped for any reason. You set it in your breast pocket or in plain view, just make sure it is in your possession. I have been in cars when the driver has pulled out a recorder while being stopped and it has changed the tone of the officer.

According to the paper the law just passed, no tint with out a perscription.
50% was pleanty safe and just enough to keep some sun out of the car.

    How Fu@king lame!!!!

    Was in the startrib today.

"All this and more is the result of legislation passed during the just-concluded 2008 session"

"If you are ... tinting your car windows, you'll need a doctor's prescription to show that you need to reduce light coming in for medical reasons, part of an effort to make traffic stops safer for police."

    Link->http://www.startribune.com/politics/state/19085944.html?page=1&c=y

    it's on page 3

*edit: I guess it could just be sloppy journalism and could mean that you can have a perscription for under 50%

It's sloppy journalism regardless of what it says.
Could we please cite laws dammit?
This could have anything from a somewhat lower limit to a nice grandfather clause loophole.

This is why I live in Minneapolis. The cops here have things other than window tint to worry about. I mean really...when you have 8 windows, and the top of your wagon is virtually ALL glass, it can be almost unsafe the amount of sunlight that beats down inside the car.

My dad is a doctor. Looks like I'm gonna' need a prescription...for more COWBELL!!!

dont worry, i'm sure it'll still be perfectly legal to have blacked out windows on your vand/truck/suv./limo It's just the people with tinted car windows who are morally corrupt and dangerous....

you've nailed it on the head sir.

When I drive my van with blacked out tinted windows slowly by the middle school people stop and wave. But Nooo.....when I drive by in my import doing the speed limit and have 35% tint then all hell breaks loose and people run for their lives and I get a ticket.:dunno:

This is the best I could find:

    https://www.revisor.leg.state.mn.us/bin/bldbill.php?bill=H3204.1.html&session=ls85

    some more (brief) reading:

    http://www.house.leg.state.mn.us/sessionweekly/art.asp?ls_year=85&issueid_=19&storyid=495&year_=2008

    http://www.house.leg.state.mn.us/se...ls_year=85&issueid_=19&storyid=495&year_=2008

    http://www.house.leg.state.mn.us/hrd/bs/85/HF3204.html

I had a hell of a time trying to decipher that jibberish, but it seems to me like the current laws were just clarified. So 50% still legal but darker would need a fresh prescription, etc...
Can we get your take nm+?

As far as I can tell (not legal advice, don't rely on it, etc)
    What has changed:
Dealers/lessors cannot sell/lease a vehicle with illegal tint
Some technical definitions regarding OEM glass
prescriptions need to list the tint % allowed (someone who needs 20% can't get 5%) and prescription must have an experation date
Police can have any tint they want on rear and side

Nothing else seems to be changed.

okay, car is getting 55% tint as we speak. I'll called the cop that keeps giving me the tickets asking if he would inspect the car at the police station...so we don't keep running into eachother on the road. ;)

what are the chances he'll do that...inspect the car at the police station??

Knowing your history with him, he'll probably throw the tint gauge on it and tell you it's too dark!

And then hand you a ticket. lullz.

Honestly, I have nothing against cops and will do everything in my power to work WITH them, not against them. However, if he isn't cooperative I will go above him. :)

I was thinking that I would contact the local PD and have them check my stock windows before tinting so I have an idea of what % it will be after 50% is added.

They'll just get me for something else I'm sure. lol.

HAHA, now i know EXACTLY what cop it is. yeah, that prick probably wont... and if he does, i would SO not be surprised if he did pull some prick move and right you another ticket right then and there. that guy, is THE BIGGEST A-Hole i have honestly ever met. I have been lucky enough  to have a handful of encounters with him and he has always, and i mean always, seemed to go out of his way to make my day a little more pissy
