Funny, 3 of us with imports know the same cop, and have had multiple run-ins with him.

    Coincidence? Doubtful

Is it the one that sits on 212? Or is it 5? eh, I don't get down that way too often. But I have seen the black Charger sitting in the median down thur.

He never came after me...assuming it's the same one.

he drives the Durango, the UC Nitro and mainly that damn Explorer. he is a prick, the guy that is normally driving the UC black Charger (and the blond chick) are both pretty cool actually, the guy pulled me over at night to check why my lights were all over the place just to make sure everything was good and gravy, i told him i had coilovers and he said they looked pretty sweet. haha

For some reason, the troopers...er troppers in Rochester hate mah car and all it stands for.

Other than that, I have had one warning for my tint in Oakdale. The cop said that if I took off my liscense plate brackets, that he would let the tint slide. I grabbed the screwdriver out of my toolbag and took them off right there. He was pleased.

    ...so was I.

yeah i was pulled over my said prick with glasses in EP for a plate frame, mind you it WAS honestly 100% legal... he complained up a storm, so i asked if i could remove them and he said when you get parked. being the smartass i am, got out of the car, ripped both off and tossed them in the back seat. he was NOT pleased at all and continued to yell at me more.

Glass naturally refelects ~4% for each surface or ~8% total throughput of light so there you go. Imo the system is set up to fail, I really can't believe that the tint mfg. haven't figured this out yet.

I've gotten 2 speeding tickets and a no front plate ticket from that same cop in EP with the glasses. He really is a prick and he's allways in some car that's really tought to spot, all the lights are inside the car and it's one single color.

Kinda off-topic, BUT, there has been a Charger-Burgundy color State Trooper chillin' on Hwy 312 as it merges with Hwy 5 goin East (by Mitchell Rd). There is a city officer there at night as I found out, hes out of his vehicle using a radar to clock peeps as they cruise by at ludicrous speed. Thought people would like the heads up, that stretch of road is NOTORIOUS for speeders as it is going to/from 55 MPH/65MPH, ez-pickins to make a quota.

    Drive safe, always!

well, as most of you know I've had the bullseye on my back from a certain EP cop. Anyways, I went and had my windows tinted again at the legal limit. So I thought.

anyways, I know he's got his eye on my car and everytime he sees the car he'll pull me over. plain and simple.

So the windows are tinted at 55%.

Today I made an appointment to meet the officer and have him insepct the windows.

    the bad news.......................

    It's showing up at 42%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He even let me take it to different windows and play with the darn thing myself. It kept reading 41, 42, 44, etc.....

What the hell do I do?

55% film? The factory windows do have a tint to them, I'm not sure, but it might be around 80%.

I originally thought the law was 50% film applied to your windows was legal, but I've heard since that the law is 50% net (film + original tint), or total light through the window needs to be 50%.

So, to be legal, you'd have to get like 60% tint or less.

Also, strictly speaking to be legal, you need a decal between the tint and the glass on the driver's door window that shows the type of tint I think. It's in the statute somewhere.

So, I have 55% tint on my windows too, which would probably measure similar to yours. It sucks because I thought at the time I was getting completely legal tint.

    yeah i know.

I called a tint place located in EP. I explained my situation and they immediately knew the particular officer I was having trouble with. This company is going to test my windows after work. If the readings are not the same as the EP officer, then I will have one other source test it.....all this before i have the re-done:(

I had a place in EP check the tint, it came up to 45-46% depending upon where he put the meter.

I have another trick up my sleeve before I throw in the towel and call it a loss.

OEM "clear" glass is between 90-95%, so if you put on 50% film, so ~45% sounds about right, esp as tint film is never produced 100% perfect (and those meters do have a margin of error, though its not that large)
Have them re-do 1 window only and retest it. :)

On the discusion of window tint notes, yes i have a note for window tint. I worked construction last summer and got hit in the eye by a role of tyvek. I had to get my eye all fixed up and bright lights still suck with it. But the day i first started this thread was the day i got pulled over for everything and he told me that they are not even really allowing the eye doctor notes inless its a serious case so i wouldnt waste your time cause they are very picky on that note to!!

File a complaint to the department. State that our tax money should not pay an officer specifically dedicated to pulling over cars with dark tint. There are many more issues that he could be resolving, such as SPEEDING, or reckless driving, or DWI's.

He should be put on bicycle duty. What a jerk.

    What is his badge number?

File a complaint for an officer enforcing the law (even one you disagree with). This will be ignored, except to make sure the entire EP police dept is looking for you.
Save complaints for when a cop does something unprofessional and/or illegal.

Well, anyone can file a complaint, for any reason they see fit.

If someone feels like an officer is, for example, harassing them, they have every right to file a complaint. IE; legally, you see it as an officer doing his job, I could see it as he could be doing something much more productive with his time and want to file a complaint.

Dave, you should ask a different officer, with a different tint-o-meter to test it, if it comes back different than the other, fight it. If not, your screwed ;)

    edit:

This guy has probably been on EP's finest since who knows when, seeing how old he is. Advice given by nm+ should be considered over mine :)

I won't file a complaint against the officer, no way. He's doing his job...by the books (that's the real problem here)

Has anyone ever witnessed a person getting pulled over by EP police? Within minutes they typically have 2-4 cop cars at the scene. Imagine what they would do to me....:eek4:

Yes, I've made plans to have another police agency inspect the car. If the reading are the same as the tint shop then I'll ask for a re-inspection from the EP officer. Otherwise I don't want to create more drama so I'll have the car re-done again...at 65% tint. The guy that tinted my car already offered to redo it real cheap....he's been very nice about this.
