so my friend decided this weekend that he was going to make a front lip for his car, because there are not too many aftermarket things made for it. made a mold out of stiff styrofoam, molded it to the shape he wanted then layed the cf over it. it turned out pretty good for doing it on the garage floor lol. so then with some leftover scraps i made a license plate delete cover thing lol cut the shape out of cardboard and then layed the cf over it.
Looks pretty good though, are you using a mold or free hand, either way not bad. I am considering getting some of that work done myself.
yes very hard! especially when you dont have a very stiff form to stretch it across. still debating weather i like it or not, i will have to wait and see what it looks like out in the sun, might just replace it with some aluminium. but they were just some scraps so i figured i would give it a try
Kudos for the effort! I always thought it would be funny to stencil your plate numbers onto the FMIC...
I've thought about getting a setup to do some vacuum bagging. Its about $350 for a setup that uses an air compressor. I'm going to make a hood eventually. Its just depends on when i want to spend the dough on it.
well the carbon fiber is about $50 a yard, plus the resin and hardener, mixing cups, brushes, stir sticks, it comes to about $80 a yard then the foam we used as a mold was a couple buck at a craft store. the lip actually extends about a foot under the car, so it took a little less than a yard to do the whole thing.
