Mine is velcroed down and hasn't moved the entire time it has been in my car. It's been in there for 6 months or so. I'll get pics tonight.

BTW I have a RE SX

one word: manufacturers frequency response specs. read 'em.

ok, more than one word. most 6.5s aren't even rated, under ideal conditions, to respond below 80hz. The good stuff is down in 20s and 30s. Accurate reproduction of music requires a response across the entire audible spectrum.

all that said; damn, the Harmon Kardon 6.5s in my MINI kick out some serious low end! Almost comes close to my 12" sub.

Thats also a heated debate, I have heard some kick arse factory sound systems with out a subwoofer. Then again bass for bass my Alpine Type R would blow them out of the water. Personally I would like my components to hit the high notes and my subwoofer to hit the low notes. If you want the best quality bass, mids, and highs then getting a set of amplified components and amplified subwoofer is the way to go IMHO.

a 6.5 subwoofer vs a 6.5 component "mid" are two very different things...

it isn't so much the size of the speakers in question that matters.

Well, since there are a few RE owners here... My RE HC circa '03. It was powered by a Hifonics 1500d. It could blur your vision even with it sealed. The sub alone was a little over 40lbs

cool sub! they really used to make awesome stuff until they went all taiwan AND somehow simultaneously raised prices. I used to call a friend down in memphis and beg for their stuff at a 15% discount, and now my long time car audio distributor carries it and i wont' buy at wholesale.

if we want to start talking about big sub set-ups- I have owned/run as many as 4 DD9917s in past vehicles (with literall 10x the power that hifonics amp makes). I currently have a kicker soloX 18", 7 different mtx 9500s, and 2 DD 9917s laying around not in use.

Those Digital Design subs are great. A buddy had the 9915 and that thing hurt my ears. But obviously by the 1.75^3 box I had I was going more for SQ/SQL than SPL. Not much for burping subs at 45hz.

SPL, he tuned to or close to his cars resonant frequency and set the sub sonic filter to just below 45hz. You can send gobs of power to a sub for a limited amount of time and not blow it and makes some serious pressure. Course he had one box built just for this. It's called "burping"

I sold my old RE HC and Hifonics to a buddy and it is still wangin to this day. Sometimes I miss that setup

Naturally the best way to get good bass is a sub. However, a lot of speakers nowadays are being rated as low as 40 Hz (http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?g=52000&i=107DB6500&tp=95). Ill definetly agree that the best way to get killer bass is a sub, but for an alternative thats easier on the wallet as well as a lot less weight, amplified components are a good way to go. Just my .02.

Well, some components may very well extend to 40hz.

It's like saying the ej257 has a redline up to 7000k rpm. Sure, it may rev that high. But all the meat and usefull power have fallen off well before that point.

HB ... hatch back? Well I believe Dizmal doesn't have anything in his Speed3, do you have a sub or amp now? Do you have a tight budget?

    Yes, hatch back..

already have an infinity 10" with a little sealed enclosure, and a couple of MTX's in a bigger ported box, 400w?? amp and capacitor, all of which are untested and have been orphaned by previous roommates aside from the cap..
leaning towards the Infinity. and hopefully get something that stays within the profiles for this amp/speaker for an upgrade later.
need to figure crossover action from factory deck i think as well.

No offense but it's a 08 then. Umm you can go with a smaller box and put the Infinity in it and put it off to one side. I don't think there would be anything in the after market world (stealth boxes) for that new of a vehicle.

while thats definitely more appealing than the 08's ive seen,
mine still has the previous body style..but with squareish headlights, boxer, single pipe exhaust tip, non-forked 7 stars..

07 wagon ... ohh! Yeah i guess when I hear hatch 1) I think 08 2) I get way excited (I want one). Umm still smaller box and off to the side is your best bet.

still a little of the Civic vocab. i guess wagon is the official subie term..

ill probably have to lose a few of those misc. compartments in the back. would like to figure out a way to recess it a little to maintain a little space. like the look of the one that is in the corner with the amp under the rear window..

thanks for the advice and ill keep checking...

To save space I put my amp and cap under the passenger seat, for two reasons 1) in my last car my amp would heat up in the trunk 2) to not have to run a power, signal, and ground cable into the trunk. I think it looks really nice IMO, plus then you only need to run speaker wire. Found this

    damn,.. thats pretty slick.
wonder if thats a singular phenomenon via those cats from Wicked CAS (if you say it with a boston accent its funny).

good call on the passenger seat locale as well, have a lower profile amp and it should fit no prob.
    thanks..
