talk to me about sti quick ratio steering...is this something i could just swap off of an sti and put it on the L? i'd assume i'd just need the rack and column?
I believe the '04 rack&pinion would be a direct swap. The '05+ you need it's crossmember w/ the rack&pinion. OR you can just do a steering colume.
Try the press. its worth a shot. make sure you apply some heat to it to ease things out. otherwise i would drill out the center of the axle spline and (completely destroy the axle) and force it out. otherwise just go to the junkyard and get another hub. pretty sure that any awd impreza hub should work.
but then he'll hafta get it pressed in, might as well get a bearing and seals while hes doing that. Get a big air hammer and soak the splines with PB blaster, and then just hammer the hell out of it, mine took half an hour of straight air hammering to get out, the axle was totally ruined, luckily thats why it was coming out, it was junk.
the way speedyham and i tried put more force on it than an air hammer does...and yep, we soaked it in pb blaster and put a torch on it. still no movement.
I have the tools to bend and flare the lines, But i'm going with steel braided line for all 4 wheels (it's only like ~200 for Earls lines and fittings) and my E-brake is going to plumb to my rear brakes rather then the "ebrake"
might as well go with new stainless tubes if you're going to have to redo it. plus if you use a abs brake booster/cylinder with and non-abs setup, you'll get lots of brake squish (or so i've read)
^ just get the phase 1 brake booster. its on Imprezas pre 94 IIRC. its a single stage and is supposed to provide much beter feel/response.
thats so awesome! hahaha great you should get that. i have always wondered were and how to make that happen. i see the rally guys pullin on the e-brake all the time and wish i could do the same. how hard would this be? what other money would needed?
Justin is patiently waiting for me to finish my K-sport Hydro ebrake + proportioning valve. Then I calculate the final price tag. Then we do his!! Then we can be 133t dr1ftorz
haha you know it. i'm starting to run out of patience though for my wiring. i just ordered up that jdm rear bumper for mucho weight reduction city woot
so we were able to get the engine, drive shaft, rear diff, and all the axles out. all of the axels came out fine except for one major PITA corner...i'm going to have to pick up another hub assembly.
Nice. Are you there all day now? I'd like to check it out. BTW, have you seen a Cornwell 14mm shorty socket laying around? I'm missing one...
got the dash completely out including all the wiring. also basically got everything out of the engine bay including the brake lines so i can begin running the new lines.
finally starting to get some cool stuff to put on the car vs the last 2 months of taking stuff out of the car. first thing in...
finally got my engine/tranny/etc in this week. made some decent progress so far...got the engine bay painted white, got the new brake lines run to the front tires and to the hydro ebrake, got the tranny in as well. pics will come tomorrow, i'm tired right now
an issue has popped up....my new wrx steering column has a different spline count than the L wrack/joint thing. any suggestions? do i need a whole new wrx rack?
FINALLY got my stuff from the donor car this week. it was a LONG 6 week wait but i'm glad its finally here. how it arrived hope this baby is strong same to this... glad i'm not the one doing the wiring splice started to rattle can the engine bay white...
very nice, glad you finally got your stuff, as far as the rack goes i used the wrx one, it works but when you get it aligned they tend to bitch and moan because you have to adjust it all the way in because of the wider track on the wrx.
Looks good so far. if you need a hand let me know. i figured you would be able to use the L column and rack with the swap, but maybe not if you are doing the whole x-member swap. I think the Ls have a quicker rack than the WRXs. are you just going to rattle can the engine bay or are you going to have it actually sprayed? rattle can doesnt hold up to well. also what are you doing with the old parts? the 2.2l, wiring and the auto trans?
martin, ryan knows what hes talking about, he just did the swap, and no, the L racks are not quicker.
the sti's have a quicker rack right?? maybe i can source of one those if it will fit in the wrx xmember. not really sure what i'm doing with all the old L parts martin
olds and thank you! im finally gonna get it back on the road again after an abortion of a motor build a few years ago
