You already have enough electrical problems. I'm not going to get into a vehicle you own with that many batteries in a large body of water... ;)

It might make fishing easy, though.

seriously though. as long as we're consuming, we're going to be screwing something up.

    bio fuel -> food shortage
wind power -> kill endangered bird species
    nuclear -> toxic avenger

there really isn't any winning here. I guess it all comes down to how can we screw up the least amount of stuff.

not true. If you charge them at night you use nuclear power. If you use it during the day there is a large chance you are using natural gas( really no better than coal, at least it burns cleaner). And it depends on your location, some states use a lot of hydro power and wind power. You can get solar panels on your house and that will take care of a lot of charge. I know its expensive but someone has to start this sooner or later.

Where is all this money to do this stuff supposed to materialize from? Most of the people I know are less worried about putting solar panels on their house than they are about putting food on the table and clothing on their families. And if either of your candidates get into the White House they'll be upping the taxes so we'll be working with even less cash. Once again, you're just making broad generalizations without looking at the resources behind what you're saying. People are just supposed to magically start doing what you think is right, regardless of reality.

Just playing Devils advocate for a second, and this isn't pointed at you but more as a general thought. Who needs a 200+hp daily driver? Nobody needs one, they're not necessary. It's nice to have that kind of capability and speed though, I'll be the first to admit that. That's the beautiful part about this country, we get the opportunity to choose what kind of vehicles we drive. Sure, an SUV is less than ideal but our cars aren't the most fuel efficient vehicles out there either, and that's before we start modifying them. Am I for banning mods or fast cars? Nope. But it's a slippery slope when we start trying to tell people what they should be driving or shouldn't be driving.

I am being called a small minded left wing animal hugger and no one agrees with my views on this site. And somehow they are entitled to have their options and i am not, how is that?

Brian just this is enough to be alarmed
    http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/politics/la-na-health30mar30,1,1061539.story

It really looks like McCain does not learn from his life experience. Maybe because he is loaded and does not care about poor people at all. He is a vet but he rejected GI bill. He had cancer but his health plan proposal is not going to cover preexisting conditions. I really dont understand his idea of presidency.

    You're not helping.

McCain's health plan is extremely messed up. Lots of his plan is based on flawed trickle down economics (basically that tax benefits for corperations giving health care funded by personal income taxes will some how trickle back to increased pay to offset the taxes).
Of course, neither Clinton nor Obama's plans are anything near flawless.

Unfortunatly the AMA and HMOs are too powerful to get any real changes done.

Bang up article, i think the only way it could've been more skewed is if they photoshopped in a picture of McCain clubbing baby seals in a school zone while firing an "assault" :)roll:) weapon into a crowd of orphans. I'm not crazy about his plan, but it does do one very important thing. It keeps my healthcare out of the hands of the government. Who do you think is going to pay for health care if we go to Socialized (sorry, Nationalized) health care? Oh yeah, we still have to pay for it. All that money has to come from somewhere and that somewhere is straight out of our pockets in the form of taxes.

Lets forget the fact that countries with socialized medicine typically have lower standards of care, and people actually trying to find care outside that country. Not to mention the long lines and bureaucratic messes. Increased competition is a good thing, and it's part of why our country is one of the greatest innovators in the medical fields. I sure as hell don't want the same people who have bankrupted Social Security in charge of my medical care.

    This depends on the country.
I'd rather have health care in Norway (which is perhaps the most similar to us in GDP per capita) who has a rather effective socialized system than here if I had cancer.
Actually, I do think the English system is somewhat better than people give it credit for. The NHS has serious problems. Yes, waiting lists for non-urget care occurs. But they also have private insuarnce which lets you jump the line. It means that if you pay for it, you get damn good care. And if you can't, you won't get tossed out or have to declare bankrupcy. Oh and HMOs in the US have some pretty long waiting lists too.

All systems are flawed. Sure you can point to the Canadians who come here for health care. But i can point to the people who travels to canada for drugs or certain other surgery.

To back up Taras a bit:

Many power companies give you an option to buy your energy from more environmentally-friendly sources like wind generators. It's the same power company, but your energy supply comes from somewhere else. Supposedly it costs only marginally more. I haven't looked into it, but I've heard about it from at least 2 or 3 different sources.

To jump on the other side of the line:

Taras, the only reason people think you're an idiot is not because of your opinion but the way you conduct yourself. You've spent your whole year on here building up that reputation.

WMC Taras: I wanna this car, comrades.
MNSubaru: Don't buy it, he's shady and it's a bad investment buying that car.
*Repeat statement from many people for months*
WMC Taras: I signed contract to buy this car. Is good deal.
MNSubaru: That's a really bad idea, back out now.
WMC Taras: I give him monies and my wheels. Is good deal.
MNSubaru: NO!!! It's a really bad idea! There's members here who know! Stop while you can!
WMC Taras: This man is shady. Is not good deal. I need lawyer to get my monies back.

/\ This was how you started here. /\

Political Taras: Democrats FTW. MPR tells me so.
Political MNSubaru: Why is this idea FTW?
Political Taras: Look at this other issue that is totally unrelated!
MNSubaru: You didn't answer the question...
Political Taras: You're ignorant. I go to college. You obviously don't, because you don't see the world through the technicolor kaleidescope I do.
MNSubaru: You still didn't back up your opinion. Now you're being a bit of an ass.

/\ This is more or less how every political conversation with you goes. /\

Environmental Taras: Look at this travesty halfway across the world!
MNSubaru: Well, that's not a very thorough article. It seems to make sense from that culture's perspective.
    MNSubaru (Alternate): Doggie tasty!
Environmental Taras: I'm outraged! You people are heartless and cruel!
MNSubaru: We see you are upset. Moar doggie plz.
Environmental Taras: I hate you and your guns!
    MNSubaru: ???

/\ Do you see a pattern? It's like watching TVLand. Every show is a repeat. /\

Selfish Taras: **** the environment, I need to know how to get better gas mileage from my performance car.
MNSubaru: It's not going to happen, this is the necessary evil of our hobby.
Political Taras: It's George Bush's fault! The next non-Republican president will just jump right into his job and fix everything and we'll all get to go to the Chocolate Factory!
MNSubaru: W didn't put a catless downpipe on your car and turn your boost up. Also, how does this apply to your gas mileage?
    *See Political Taras Scenario*

/\These types of conversations are why people think you're a hypocrite. Rabid dogs are victimized one minute, and your choking them to death with CO2 the next./\

I can't express enough how there is no malice in what I'm telling you here, but this is how things look on the outside. I'm really not trying to attack you, because you really aren't like this in real life. However, your conduct on here to people that don't talk to you personally face-to-face are being given a totally different perspective on your personality. I seriously hope you can take this to heart and reflect on your own self-image, rather than getting defensive about it. I'm only trying to help, in a somewhat humorous way, but only if you can laugh at yourself.

I'm still of the opinion that a free market is a better option, but I do see some merits in other systems. I agree that healthcare costs are getting out of hand, but I think that healthcare reform, rather than giving it over to the government is a better plan.

Again, seriously with all my e-sincerity: I'm not trying to attack or victimize him (though I may use some examples for lulz) at all. I really just want to bring a bit of a generalization of what his image is on here. Most of the people who are attacking him don't know what he's like in real life and only have this type of an image to go by. It just doesn't look very good.

I guess I'm making myself look like an ass in the process, but I really am an ass in person. Ask anyone who knows me.

No, you pay with taxes for bad nationalized medicine, and when you get fed up with waiting you pay out of pocket for privatized medicine. Obviously you missed the story two weeks ago where people were waiting over four hours to be seen in ER. The government decreed that nobody would wait more than four hours. The solution? Now they hold people inside the ambulance at the hospital because the clock starts ticking when they go inside the hospital.

Health care in this country is screwed up because the government got involved. They regulated the hell out of it. Did you know you can't open a new hospital because you could run other hospitals out of business? A centrally planned business- it's like the Soviet Union.

I see what you're saying Brian, but you are missing the beauty of turbochargers. I still get the same mileage whether or not my car is 200hp or 600hp. It actually gets better with a larger turbo. How can I say that? It takes a fair amount more effort to spool up a large turbo, thus the time in boost is less. On a stock TD04, you spool that little thing up so easily its not even funny. When it is that easy to spool it up, you are burning that much more fuel consistently.

I still get 24.5-28mpg on the highway depending on the season. Find me a 400hp V8 that can do that. The amount of time I actually spend with my foot to the floor is very little. Maybe if I was a high school kid who needs to hear the bov on every shift my MPG would be terrible.

The other part about SUV's is that they are inherently unsafe. Their body on frame design is subject to much less regulation than unit body cars. For instance, roof strength is not regulated on light trucks. How many people die in roll-overs in SUV's? About two-thirds of the people that roll them over. SUV's and trucks are much much more dangerous for everyone on the road as well. Higher bumpers and rigid frames are not conducive to people in passenger cars. Add that in with the higher mass and it's a tough situation for passenger cars. Besides the fact that we struggle to even see around them.

Maybe I'm just bitter, I dunno. On my way out of Cub Foods this afternoon, there was a guy walking in front of me by about 30 feet. As he walked around my car to his '07 or '08 Suburban parked next to my car, he sneered at it pretty well. Maybe it was the mnsportcompacts.ghey stickers, I just don't know. Either way, I chuckled to myself thinking about how he's getting 13mpg on a good day driving it back and forth to the office. (He was dressed for the occasion)

I'm not saying we need to regulate what people drive. I just wish people would be a hair more responsible about what they drive, consume, etc. That iis a lot to ask for in this country though.

haha, join the club. I've lost all quams about looking like an ass in person or on the internets. I just don't care anymore....
